I got a 10 day key
Haven't started a character yet. Looks like a lot of AT members are on Gladden.

What race/class should I play? How much does race affect your character? What is a fun class? What about a good class for someone who may end up having to go solo a good bit?

Champions are great for going solo They have tons of Area of Effect damage so you can take on multiple mobs at once.

So Far I perfer the Human race for Champs but thats just me. Race doesn't affect too much but Some classes are definatly better on certain races. IE If you want to be a Hunter chose Elf as they get some traits which works great for ranged weapons.

Suprisingly enough Lore-Masters have been some of the most dominant soloers I have seen.

We have a guy in our Kinship who solo'ed all the way to 50. Not sure exactly how he did it, but he bragged about it quite a bit I guess having a pet helps and they do get certain spells that are very helpful for soloing (or grouping for that matter).

He had a video on Youtube of him soloing a level 50 elite when he was level 48. I can;t seem to find it now though...

Cheers,
KT

Very True LM's can be great!!! , IMO LM's and Captain's while at the beining of the game are pretty boring they become some of the most useful classes at the highier levels.

I have one as an alt I like the class quite a bit. I'm only at level 14ish with him, but good times so far.

I also really like having burgs in my fellowships for the fellowship maneuvers and other things, very handy. Another good thing is you can explore higher level areas without too much worry using your sneaking abilities.

Once I max out my captain, my burglar will be the next character I focus on.

A human champion gets attack advantages with swords, which is why mine was made that way. There are not a whole lot of things that the class you pick effects, but there are a few abilities from your race that can enhance a class or two.

Cool cool. I have my hunter who's my main. I love the class. Played it in Wow too. I was never really a big fan of the rogue class in WoW. It the Burg pretty close to the rogue? Whats your thoughts. Maybe i'll try it out.

I've never played Wow for any real amount time, but here is a quote I read on the LOTRO forums:

I am of the Burglar and Burglars are nothing like Rogues. Rogues in WoW was just button mashing toe to toe fighting. A Burglar can do high brust DPS but after your opening chain we are all about the debuffs and Fellowships Moves starters and we are good at Crowd Control. If you like to Solo a lot then the Burglar is for you I have done quests the groups have had issues with. It's all about being sneaky not fighting, you sneak thought things when groups have to fight their way in with high evade and Touch and go on (+%50 to edvade) no one can touch you. At lvl 40 you can just about take on any elite mob of +2 lvl above you if you play it right. So if you liked being a Combat/DPS rogue in WoW you'll hate the Burglar.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
KT

Going to roll on Gladden later this week with one of my friends. What two classes are in the greatest demand for people that want to group on that server?

(Btw, thanks Keith for the key and my friend sends his thanks JBT!)

Minstrels are always in demand, but I am always wanting for a good burglar as well. I think you can't go wrong with either. I have also noticed a greater appreciation for captains and as they grow in levels, they become even more indespensible. I love my captain though, so I am quite unabashedly bias.

If you are planning on playing together just the two of you, it is probably a good idea to be a minstrel and guardian or champion to get the whole dps/tank/heal combo going.

I have a level 12 and 14 burg (ILOVENORI) and LM (GAMASENNIN) on Gladden if you need a hand with anything, so just send me a tell and I will drop what I am doing and head over to help.

Good luck!

Cheers,
KT

Just started a 10 day trial (thanks KeithTalent!) on the Gladden server. I created an Elf Lore-Master named Aanrie.

Did a little forum reading this weekend and finally got SLI to work correctly for LOTRO. This also allowed me to turn post-processing effects back on without a return to the hitching. A glorious day

Hey KeithTalent, thanks for the key. Had played a hunter in beta till... 22 or 24 or something, so I was familiar with how everything works. I'm almost level 13 with my Minstrel, Tegeril - and I added your characters as friends.

I don't think I'm going to play after the trial period. there's just nothing there that makes me want to keep playing. its pretty much the same standard mmorpg stuff in every other game.

So does that mean you are going to stop playing MMORPGs all together?
Or is there 1 in particular that you are waiting for?

Looking forward to Age of Conan, mainly because I'm a Conan fan though.

Wanted to stop in and thank JBT for the key. I'm liking it and will probably buy it. Is there a way to just buy a key online since I already downloaded the thing or do I have to go to the store and actually buy a retail copy? (I'm at work right now and can't get to LORTRO.com to check, damn Surf Control filters!)

Bunker, I think if you go to the LOTRO site it'll have the way for you to purchase the game and pay for it with the Founder's Fee. ($10/month - $200/lifetime)
