brandywine is one of the most populated servers in LOTRO

if you're starting a new char i'd highly suggest a different server as the queues are fairly regular.

I used to play on Windfola, which was not very populated at the time (last year). Never had a queue, but hard to find a group sometimes.

Well I downloaded the 10GB+ free trial. Tried to get it to run - just hangs on black screen as soon as the game launches. Spent almost an hour dredging through the tech support to find the "top 4 reasons why you get a black screen on launch" - LMAO . Did all 4 of them. Still get black screen. Wow, 3 hours of trouble shooting later and I still can't get the game to work. Guess I won't be subscribing *eyeroll*

But other than that it seems like a great game. lolz

Can someone tell me which class has no "yelling" skills? the warden's getting on my nerves.

I'm digging this hunter class, espeically since I can still use my bow at melee range, something my hunter in WoW couldn't do. I wish I could place traps in combat though EDIT: I see once I place traps 100 times I can then place them in combat, I kinda like the "use the skill over and over and you get a bonus" type approach

I gave it more time, finished up all the introduction quests, and am going to play it a bit more and get involved in some crafting before I make my final judgements.

I checked out this page

http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Hunter

Says I get medium armor at level 10, is that a passive skill i train at my class trainer or is it something i have to buy/train somewhere else?

Joe: weaponsmiths like myself can craft advanced traps for you, not to mention bows. Also items for several other classes...nobody buys them much though, not sure through not knowing or not caring, but yeah..

Folks just signing up on BW, it's probably the most populated of the servers and thus has it's own set of problems.

Joemonkey, make sure you visit your class trainer and learn your active and passive skills as you level (new bow skills, evade & parry skills, armor & weapon proficiencies, etc...). I would recommend staying away from the Woodworker craft set. As it's your first character, I would suggest Explorer.

I played about 600+ hours, lvl 60 champ and a couple 40s LM and Warden. I refused to play hunter, probably for the same reason hunters refused to play champs..too many of them! I just got tired of the grind after reaching 60. Even at 60 the game was more massive then I expected. Being in Moria the first time was really awesome...spending the last 3 months of my subscription EXCLUSIVELY in Moria..enough to make me cancel. I got really tired of that place. However, if you can get a decent group together the instances were pretty fun.

3 months in one place would make anyone quit...wow.

Is there really that little to do @ 60?

Depends on your perspective. Moria did start to become a drag and then Lothlorien was added with recent update. Now my L60 spends most of his time in Lothlorien unless I'm running raids/instances with my kin.

Edit: There's always PvP in the Ettenmoors at L60 if you're into that. Personally, I never venture out there.

This gives no one any help to help you.

What resolution is your desktop at? What graphics card? Current drivers? What res is the game at on launch? Is the game in windowed or full screen mode?...etc

I just hit level 10 and now don't know wtf to do with my destiny points or traits or anything

I did pick the explorer trait just so I can make my own armor. Crafting is pretty neat so far.

Friend me up on BW, Wargali

Well I got it figured out. The first time through I checked for sound driver updates with vista because I figured that would be sufficient. It didn't update. This time I went to mobo website and downloaded the driver manually. Fixed the issue. Guess I was just being lazy. Never had this kind of a problem with a sound driver.

I only played for 10 minutes or so last night because it was past my bedtime. I'm kind of underwhelmed with the graphics. Even at max resolution on ultimate settings it still looks pretty mediocre, IMO. Don't know what I was expecting though.

traits just read what they do and pick what sounds good

And destiny points...well let's put it this way, i have over four thousand sitting there. I think i've used them once to extend the enhanced XP bar. The buffs are all temporary so tbh i'm waiting for something cool to come along to spend them on...probably in vain

Are you using dx10? The graphics are about average...for an mmo. I don't know why - i'm guessing because so much is going on in the mmo world and there's the potential for a huge number of simultaneous polygons on the screen - but mmos are never cutting edge in the graphics department. Which is fine with me

I have absolutely no idea regarding the PvP rewards. I pay absoutely no attention to that.

Destiny points...they're occasionally useful. In the higher levels they're nice to give yourself the rested XP bonus, in raids I've used the hope buff, health buff and power buff. I haven't even come close to using a decent amount of my destiny points though...I think I've got 25-30 thousand sitting there.

I mailed you a couple of critted bows last night. 1 is a level 7 bow but better than you're using and the other is a L12 bow...you should hit that in no time.

Gah, I'll make a couple more tonight and try to find you and just give'em to you

Edit: Free trials are great but the thing with LotRO is that it's a very story based game and it's hard to get into that when you're rushing around trying stuff out on a 10 trial.

do you know what I have to "buy" if i want to keep trying it for a month? Do I have to pay $50 to get the "game" that is already downloaded + the first month included? Or do I just start paying the monthly fee?

I, quite honestly, have no clue. I preordered the game way back when and then got a lifetime subscription...I haven't paid a monthly fee for this game (outside of the $200 for the lifetime sub).

Edit: If you decide to subscribe, I'm pretty sure I still have a founder's key or 2 left which gets you the special pricing ($9.95/month or something).
