Losing internet frequently

hello,

i am having a problem with my internet. i lose connection randomly. sometimes every 5 minutes its gone. sometimes 1 hour. sometimes 3 weeks. i have to powercycle (reset modem ANd computer) to get it back. i am on dsl pro (1M i think?) and my computer is directly connected to the modem with a wire. when i lose connection, other computers on my network dont! so i have a problem and i dont know how to fix it....my modem is a Speedstream, i am unsure of the specific model however. lately its been acting up and is just plain annoying. i should mention, that my internet seems to die especially after playing an online game.

EdIT: just checked the bottom or my modem. the brand is Efficient Networks. and under device manager i apprenelty have soemthing called Agere AC modem.

Do you have a router you could use? Try connecting the modem to the router then everyone else who shares the internet connection into that as well, instead of possibly sharing it from your PC like I think you mean?

Given that everyone on your network is using the DSL modem's connection without issue, I think you can safely rule out the modem, itself, unless it's some problem with the ethernet cable.

How is your network configured? If you're directly connected to the DSL line on your pc, how are the other pc's in the network getting online? In other words, is there a router involved? Please elaborate.

I can think of 4 possible causes:
1. Bad cable -> try another cable, or swap cables between your computer and the others in the network, see if that "move" the problem.
2. Bad network driver -> try download a new driver for your network card, and reinstall the driver (maybe even try different driver revisions).
3. Bad network card -> try another network card.
4. Your Windows' networking files is corrupted somehow (kinda far fetched but sometimes it does happen) -> not sure how to get this fix short of Windows reinstall.

I would check the power management settings on your machine and disable its control over your network controller.

It's been my experience that it's usually "security" software that just botches it all up. Do a cleanboot with msconfig and if it works fine for a while then enable some stuff and try again. It could also be the network card. Just get one to rule it out - they're 10$... no biggie.
