Have you asked a doctor? It might simply be hot liquids, cough drops, no shouting, wait it out, etc, but you should have it checked out before it gets worse.

Your throat's probably already in bad shape from the cold - I remember seeing on some Discovery Channel show awhile ago that your body's immune response includes destroying infected cells. So your immune system is in there blowing up cells in your throat - that's bound to cause soreness. Then there's the coughing. All that activity irritates the already damaged area = more pain.
Cepacol lozenges are decent. They've got benzocaine which will numb anything it touches, maybe menthol (an analgesic?), and some varieties include a cough suppressant.
