Losing network connection

I began having problems with my second computer where it would lose its network connection after a minute or two. I found by unplugging and plugging the Ethernet cable right back in, it would work again, but only for a minute.

Then I added a NIC card and disabled the onboard LAN. Wouldn't you know it but the network stayed steady and never died on me.

So I decided, what the heck, I've wanted to upgrade this computer anyway, this is a good excuse. I had an AM2 mobo, bought a 5600+, then had to buy the memory when I realized the memory from the 939 wasn't recyclable.

Get everything set up and wouldn't you know it, it's doing it again! Network connection dies, I unplug and reconnect the LAN wire and it works fine. WTH???

Both were nVidia powered. I upgraded drivers when I swapped mobos. This is nuts. ANy ideas? Please help. Thanks.

Did you try to swap it with another cat5 cable? I know that you said you use a new nic and it was stable, but try to swap out the cable and see what happens.

nVida firewall/networking crap is well known to create these problems. You just can't turn it off, it must be uninstalled. At least, it's a good place to start.

Good Luck!

It could be the router. My friend got his die after 2 yrs and before that it was acting funny and had to be turned off for a while in few days. It could also be the onboard network card. Try to use a separate one instead. Of course, check all cables, plugs and jacks first.

I was wondering if it could be something so simple, and it turns out it was not. I did a cable swap, same thing.

Not installed in the first place. Or if they are, I can't find them.
