Even though I knew it wouldn't happen I was hoping Jack would let them shoot Kate. Jack saying he wants to train an army makes up for that a little bit. This sort of 'revealing of the Others' was a little bit of a letdown. I thought they were going to give some background info.

I don't know about your first thought, but I don't think the second one is true. Jack is from L.A. and from what it seems Sawyer lives in the South. Also, Sawyer tries to get money from wealthy husbands, and Jack isn't that wealthy.

Ill admit, this weeks' Lost didnt' seem that entertaining. (last weeks one with Mr. Ecko was highly entertaining and thrilling). Next weeks trailer seems promising... an army eh? lets all drink and drive!: )

Lost isn't really making sence in that if those native guys wanted guns they could have easily taken everything in the bunker, and they still can.

yea wtf... cant they just have a little sit down and actually talk about wtf is going on.. noooo they must wonder off back into the darkness.. whatever..
i want to go back to the end of the first episode, go back to thinking there's some crazy dino-king-zilla beast that's gona kill them all, but then Neo flies out changes into Jesus and smokes weed with Cheech and the monster, and then there's a big orgy.

That would rule!

if that was all the others than locke has a good count on them.

with the LA cop and sayid(remember he was in the army) training the survivors for war this ****** just got way more interesting.

also i was reading(and interview with a writer) the other day LOST is written out as a total sci-fi story line, all the drama is just suppose to sidetrack you till the end

you all see the blog where the killer smoke crap actually contains images of the person's past in there? If you go to last weeks's episode where the black dude is staring at it and go frame by frame as the camera pans *through* the smoke, all the little 'sparky' electric flashes are infact images of the person's life, so for Eko there were images of the woman with the statues, the part where he's holding his brother after being shot... essentially it's as though the person has to face up to their past and make peace with it or accept it.
One theory is that all the people *did* die, but being on the island is like being 'in limbo' or purgatory, which by definition: "A state in which the souls of those who have died in grace must expiate their sins".

Look at each of the characters: they've all had to either make a change, accept or get over a big issue of their past.

Discuss.

Edit: Screen caps that are pretty clear can be seen here

I thought in some other interview a writer/writers said they weren't going to do a purgatory type scenario?

I haven't read such an interview, but you can hardly disagree that each person has had to face their own personal issues from their pasts...

I'm not, I openly agree with you, I thought I just heard somewhere where they said they weren't going to do that sort of scenario, but I heard it from someone who said the writers said, so its all heresay.

I've wondered if that was in fact the case myself (the characters being in purgatory). Ana-Lucia and Sayid both said they feel dead (or are dead) and Sun wondered if they were being punished for things they've done, or secrets they've kept.

But I think GamingGuy is right... according to Lost @ Wikipedia, J. J. Abrams dismissed the theory of purgatory.

I think last nights episode was pretty weak. it basically did nothing at all, accept lose michael from the camp. It was saved by a few parts though, especially the end where he says he wants to train an army.

i really REALLY hope its not the purgatory route, because that is what people have been thinking since episode 1 of season 1. it would just be a huge let down. also, as stated above, i remember abrams dismissing the pergatory story. a few things about it being pergatory don't make sense to me also ...

1. Walt doesn't have anything in his past he needs to overcome.
2. How could shannon's brother "die" after he's already dead, and also, he didn't really overcome anything in his past either.
3. If it's purgatory, who the hell are the others and it sure seems like they've been there for a long time.

but regardless this show makes no sense, and i'll continue to watch it every week.

After watching the first two-three episodes I was convinced that the island was purgatory. I know the writers have said otherwise, but there's a lot of coincidental stuff that leads me to believe this theory.

IMHO Lost referes to the various characters moral and mental condition.
ie Jack overruled Dad, did surgury and has marital problems.
Locke is locked (tee hee) into a boring existance after the rebuff from his Dad.
Hurley has found that money doesn't buy happiness.
Kate seems to have lost her moral compass.
Charlie and drugs
Claire and motherhood.
Sayid and love.
ect ect
