the thought I had was that maybe they are intended to replace those the survivors killed. there were 4 on the list, and 4 "others" have been killed - ethan, goodwin, and the two the tailies killed in the first smash-and-grab on the beach.

plus except for hurley, they all have obvious, non-magical abilities the others might want. Jack's a doctor, kate and sawyer are good liars/con artists

I like this idea except for again Sayid was left off the list, and why wouldnt the Others want him?

was he not supposed to survive the crash? I am trying to remember his storyline..but nothing in past episodes suggest that he shouldnt have survived.

I'm not sure, I'm just guessing with the whole thing, but they might have considered sayid too difficult to convert.

The thread is very clearly marked, with a ton of whitespace before the actual spoilers.

The others want those specific people because they all have powers of the mind, like Walt.

Jack - miracle surgery
Hurley - some powers with the numbers, like winning the lottery
Kate - she manifested the horse on the island
Sawyer - not sure on his yet

Walt - manifested things on the island, and was able to appear in locations that he was not. Remote viewing and all that jazz.

But, why not include Locke? His paralysis was miraculously cured.
Or, why not include the black lady who has a white husband. She had some weird 6th sense that told her that her husband was still alive.

Lots of people have been healed or healed quickly, but that is because of the island, not on their own accord.

What about the black lady?

The black lady beleives the island can heal because she saw Locke in the wheel chair in the air port. it was in her flashback.

And remember, we don't know why Locke is paralized. For all we know, it's psycho-sematic. That's our theory at work anyways.

Nothing that has happened on the island that is mirsculous in nature has been proven to be so ... yet.
