a plane is made of aluminum.....a magnet wouldn't make a plane split in half and explode. It could mess with the instruments, but a pilot could still keep it level manually.

that's a good observation.....also boon and his sister, boon's mom had a bunch of money, and she hated her step daughter.

It didn't fry the plane's electronics, it ripped the tail section off. It wasn't an EMP so much as a huge magnet pulling everything metal towards it.

In the flashback episode with Rose and Bernard, Rose goes to a healer to cure her of cancer.

The healer says that they are at a magnetic spot in the world. It works for some people, but everyone has their place in the world.

The island cured Rose (so she says, because she doesn't "feel" the cancer anymore) and it's because the electromagnet caused her to be magnetically healed. At the end of the episode, the show hints that the same happened for Locke.

In the middle of the episode, when she finds desmond at the stadium, she says "With enough money and determination you can find anyone." It's obvious that Desmond is being searched for... but as far as her father sponsoring it to keep Desmond away... I dunno. I don't doubt he had something to do with it, but in the greater scheme of things, I think that he's behind it all.

K, lots of posts by me in a row, but I just now watched it...

What if the "others" were the original people in all the hatches who eventually decided to revolt against the Hanso Foundation.

It would explain why all the hatches have so far been abandoned.

Someone at "the Swan" knew of the other hatches because of the UV drawing. Kelvin was very sneaky and hesitant about talking about his partner. What if Kelvin had the same mindset as Mr. Eko that he couldn't give up pushing the button?

The tube from "the Pearl" obviously went to nothing of importance and the notebooks were never picked up, too.

Okay... the green box says a lot, I think.

First one... Locke/Eko seem to be having revelations left and right. Weak, I know, but whatever.
Second one, children are a huge theme in this show... as someone already pointed out, a lot of people's messed up parents are being mentioned left and right and in their flashbacks. There's actually less people who don't have flashbacks regarding their parents than those that do.
Third... People are seeing things. Kate's horse, Charlie's dream about baptism, Hurley seeing his imaginary friend... a lot of times it makes them realize things. But again, not to elaborate on this one.
Fourth... perhaps this is something to do with the medical hatch. Dunno.
Fifth... perhaps that's what the serum that Charlie gives to Claire is. Yes, I know that injections aren't the normal ways to use contraceptives... but makes sense, yeah?

imo that would be retarded if her father was sponsoring it

because that wouldn't explain why they were pushing it for so long, and so long that it was probably before he even met the daughter to begin with

and i doubt someone would go through some elaborate ruse like build hatches and run experiments that woudl most likely take decades to accomplish this would be very far fetched because he could easily have him killed

why for some reason "the others" know how to get off the island but choose not to

if the father is a part of this the only logical explanation would be that he is a higher up / leader in the Dharma Initiative and they were conductive all of these experiments long before desmond ever came around but just is using this keep him away but this is far from the "purpose" of the island

what i'd like to know is why the ? hatch (the pearl?) would ever be estabished to begin with

because the very notion of this kind of hatch appears to only be detrimental to keeping someone pushing the button and if they wanted to keep the button pressed than having the monitor with the hatches appears to only jeopardize this assuming they want the button to be pushed

the only thing i can think of is this is some sort of fake hatch and uses spliced footage of the guy in the video to make it seem like what the other peopl are doing is a joke though I have no idea who would have done it

Thinking about it more, it's likely that the whole island is some company's dirty little secret, and Des's GF's dad thought it would be a good way to get rid of Desmond... to just stick him out there and watch what happens.

But if he knows about it, he's gotta be in on it SOMEHOW.

Exactly. He's merely involved somehow, and figured he'd use it to get rid of Desmond. I'll bet Libby was paid off, as well.

BTW... I haven't read the whole thread, so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already.

How many people dragged Desmond off the beach and into the hatch? More than one, since he was carried off on a stretcher (right?). And I don't think Kelvin could carry that himself.
