just an observation:
if you are at a sufficiently high latitude on the planet's surface, ie - near one of the poles, and you travel due west you can traverse the entire circle of that latitude and end up at your starting location assuming there were no other land masses on that latitude which isn't that crazy considering that 75% of the earth's surface is covered by water.
so is the island near one of the poles? maybe somewhere close to a frozen land mass where 2 blokes sit in an observation station waiting for EM anomalies? maybe somewhere like antarctica?

Exactly. He's merely involved somehow, and figured he'd use it to get rid of Desmond. I'll bet Libby was paid off, as well.
BTW... I haven't read the whole thread, so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already.
How many people dragged Desmond off the beach and into the hatch? More than one, since he was carried off on a stretcher (right?). And I don't think Kelvin could carry that himself.

I think it was just one... it just looked like a few because he was seeing things funny Also it wasn't so much of a stretcher... it could have been carried at one end and dragged at the other.
.. screencaps anyone?

There's no way an experienced sailor like Desmond wouldn't be able to get away from the island even if his compass didn't work, he surely would know how to navigate by the stars to some degree, even rudimentry knowledge. Even if he didn't, he could manage to go in a straight line away from the island.
But he couldn't. He always ended up back at the island. This makes me think of something explained by a warp in space-time, or something like that. Perhaps the whole experiment was really about how to stealth an island, such as a military installation. The ultimate stealth, completely in another dimension of its own, untouchable. Nothing gets in or out unless you want it to.

Seriously. You don't need a freaking compass to go west. His inability to leave the island and Henry's statement to michael about "it wouldn't matter" if he told anyone about the island because they couldn't find it point to the island being cloaked somehow.
I really hope they keep this level of storytelling till the end and then end it right. I would hate for it to be cancelled before the grand finale, or it to start sucking.

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but the last scene w/ the two guys monitoring the electromagnetic anomaly finally kills all those purgatory/they're dead theories.

Didn't J.J. and company dismiss the purgatory theory a while ago?
