I used to weight around 230. I'm now around 198lb. I'm a 6' 2" male. I started since Jan, Did a combonation of treadmill, and weightlifting. I dropped several pant sizes. I also notice other parts of my body (arms, face, neck, buttocks, legs, thighs have srunk). but My tummy still remains. When I look down I see the same bulging tummy. However, clothing fits losser and belt is at it's last hole (need to make another hole.

My question is are there any specific exersies that work on tummy fat. Or should I just continue what I'm doing?

What is the medical reason for this? Does the body prioritize where it takes fat from?????
Nope. All in your genes. You can't spot lose. See how women want to lose their behinds but that's the last place to go generally. Guys gain in the gut, generally.

S.C. can tell you about abdominal wall collapse or whatever the term is. Means your guts are hanging out. Crunches, maybe?

Just put on more muscle upper body to detract from your gut. (easier said than done)

In general you need to lose more fat, but however some foods have been shown to concentrate fat in the abdominal area. Not sure if this applies to you, but in particular, high fructose and omega 6 fatty acid consumption can lead to more abdominal fat. Also, stress and lack of sleep seem to be related to abdominal fat.

There is nothing you can do to target specific areas of fat. Its just a depot of stored energy that responds to exercise uniformly.

When chicks lose weight they lose their tits, often (psychologically) faster than their asses.

Hehe, I can contest to this. My g/f has been cutting for a few weeks and I can tell her bewbs are smaller but the rest of her is the same.

Can't do anything about it. Increasing the strength of your abs and obliques will help a bit, but nothing you do will make you lose fat exclusively from any given place in the body.

I'm in the same boat you are. I'm 6'1", was 230 and now down to 197lb. My upper abs are starting to show if I flex my stomach but I still have a tire in my mid-section. I knew that losing the belly fat would be the toughest part. I still want to get down to 180 or so and see what happens. I'm still excited about my progress so I know it's just a matter of time.

I'm not completely rid of my gut until I hit 125-130. I'm 5'5 though.

That's pretty lean, any idea of what % bodyfat that would be?

I'm 5'5 and 147ish, wish i knew my body fat. I have some fat belly wise but it's sloooowly shrinking. I'm about 4 months in on a linear strength program, haven't thought of going on a calorie deficient/cut yet.

I don't. I could go get it done in a bod pod or whatever they're called at the base gym, but I let myself go a bit and am at 140 now and I don't really want to know : p

You can't do anything about specifically having stomach fat, but you can most certainly change the appearance of having a stomach.

Typically, people lose a lot of weight doing cardio, but aren't on a strength training program, which is essential for looking good once you lose the weight. When you complete cardio only while in a caloric deficit, you lose a significant amount of both muscle and fat so you just look like a smaller, flabby you. Strength training is essential for looking trim, due to muscle hypertrophy/maintenance while fat is lost.

In addition, having poor posture can make you look like you have a belly. Excessive lumbar spine lordosis is one of the biggest contributors there.

Body does prioritize where fat goes, but this is what it does, not what you can affect. Hence why women have fat asses and men fat guts. But it goes to those areas first and comes off first, too. I'm positive OP's belly is not unchanged if he's lose fat overall.

To lose tummy as mentioned, keep losing bodyfat. If you still have a roll when your bodyfat is low (like 10% or less), then the only way to resolve is with surgery. But unless you've been hugely obese for a long period of time and have a lot of skin rolls, if you can bring bodyfat down to 10% you're almost assured to have a pretty flat stomach.

However, clothing fits losser and belt is at it's last hole (need to make another hole.

This tells me you've made more progress, even in the tummy area, than you are aware of.

Sometimes we don't notice the gains we've made because they are gradual, and we see ourselves everyday. If someone hasn't seen you in a while, they'll notice you've lost inches in your tummy more than you might notice.

The proof is in the belt tightening, you had to make a new hole. The belt doesn't lie. Inches were lost. Even if it's just one inch that's progress and I would say just keep doing what you're doing because it's working and you'll get to the size you want to be. Don't try to rush it.

Just want to add that although you might think cardio would be better for losing fat, and it is, but strength training is important too because the more muscle you have on you the more calories you will burn given the same amount of cardio exercise. Bigger muscles need more fuel than smaller ones. They are more powerful but less efficient. In a sense kind of like larger displacement IC engines are more powerful but burn more fuel and get less fuel economy than smaller engines all else being equal.

I've never done strength training in my life. I've gone from 215 to 135 (lost some weight recently) with diet and some cardio. I'd like to see you call me flabby.

Yeah I think the proper term would be skinny not flabby. If you lose both muscle and fat you'd be skinny not flabby. Whereas if you lost fat but not muscle (through strength training) then you'd be muscular.

So just to define the terms as far as I know:

skinny: low fat, low muscle
flabby: high fat, low to medium muscle
muscular: low fat, med to high muscle

You're flabby!

J/k, but what he means is unless you're extremely low in body fat, when you have a low level of muscular development you'll look 'skinny fat'. The only way around that is a good bit of body muscle or a low enough body fat that even the modest amount of muscle anybody has can show. Certainly a 15% bodyfat guy with no muscle looks much worse than one with plenty.

I'd call you emaciated All kidding aside, I'm not saying this applies to everybody, but as a general rule those who get overweight and try to lose weight only with cardio have a tendency to lose both muscle and fat. I believe you proved my point because you didn't lose 80lbs of fat. Depending on how people hold their fat, they're more likely to keep some "flab" than you were. My program is typically geared toward maintaining muscle while losing fat. That way, people feel good when they lose the weight - they look better, their body composition improves, and they maintain the muscle mass that helps them burn a fair amount of calories. Personally, if I were going down from 215, I wouldn't want to get to 135 - that's the polar opposite end. I'd much rather be a muscular 170 than a skinny 135. I'm not saying what you did was wrong, I'm just speaking my own opinion and what I've found most weight loss clients desire.

Yea, I was just pointing out you don't have to be flabby if you're just dieting/cardio. I choose to be this small; it's how I like myself; I only got fat out of laziness/hypothyroidism. Even at 215 I didn't look as bad as you'd think though (still undeniably overweight). I had a decent amount of muscle from martial arts. I'm not exactly particularly weak right now either. I still do excellent on Air Force PT tests : p

You know what doesn't make sense to me. I haven't lost a pound in months and my stomach is basically gone. It's like all of a sudden my body decided it was done with it.
