I think it's funny that Hurley and Jin found Ben's dad in the VW Bus in the jungle and then Sawyer drank his beer

One of my nagging questions is, how did they get all of the information on these people? They somehow have a complete life history of each of the survivors (they also have printers or copying machines to make those reports, but that's a different story!). We know that they have surveillance, based on Ben showing Juliette her sister and niece, but there's no way they could have kept tabs on every single person on the flight for their entire lives (especially assuming that the plane crashed on accident from Desmond's "mistake" and the survivors being random people who they had not pre-selected). I'm sure they could have gotten a copy of the flight's passenger list based on their existing surveillance methods, but that still doesn't explain how they know each and every intimate detail. Like Jack's life report when he was being held in the aquarium was inches thick! So maybe the black cloud does some mind reading? Remember when Juliette was running away from the black cloud monster with Kate - when they were hiding in the trees it "flashed" her like a camera multiple times, perhaps reading her mind or intentions? This one is bugging me a lot

Also, they absolutely have to have access to the outside world on a regular basis. Any computer technician here can tell you that no computer system can run on it's own indefinitely. They need supplies - ink cartridges and toner for their copiers and printers, for example.

Also what's the deal with the radio jammer that they were looking for a season or two ago? Did that have anything to do with the Russian dude's house that they blew up? I wonder if the parachute girl's satphone would work now...also what's up with the big cable coming in from the ocean, is it for power, a data connection...?

No. None of the Dharma people had kids on the island. Claire's was conceived off the island, thus it was already living off the island, so it was allowed to be born on the island.

I've said this before, and the show has yet to disprove me: No new life is allowed on the island.

Also, when they gassed the Dharma people, in every scene they show of the dead, NO KIDS. All adults.

Oh I see, I thought when he said "Purgatory would explain why no children allowed" he meant that no children were allowed, period, not that no NEW children were allowed if conceived on the island. That makes sense.

But...Sun is pregnant with Jin's child, which was conceived on the island. We'll see if your theory holds up when she gives birth

I don't see why she should be the exception. But she's got, what, 8 months before birth? Dunno when the women die, but if they get off this island within 8 months, I guess she'll be fine

Nah, we still have like 2.5 years before the show ends, there's no way she'll make it off

my guess is that jacob is very powerful but that somehow ben has managed to keep him imprisoned in that house, perhaps with that ring of dirt/sand/gunpowder/whatever. ben makes it seem like jacob is still in control so that no one tries to kill ben in order to release jacob. the imprisonment is why jacob asks locke to help him. locke knows too much about jacob's and ben's situation and so ben has to kill locke to maintain control of the others.

Didn't Juliette say that women never made it past their second trimester? After that, Sun said how many months she had left...it was like 3 months.

When Locke heard Jacob say "Help me", it sounded like Locke's own voice (listen when Locke's in the grave after being shot). They both sound like the same voice.

that makes pretty good sense. I was stifling disappointment when Ben was talking to a chair...I was like, great, Ben is just insane and everyone follows him because of his elite lying skills, haha.

in an interview with cuse:

Zap2it.com has a largely ignored interview with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse on their website. It's mostly about the announcement of three more seasons of 16 episodes each, but there is some new information about the type of characters who die in the finale:

So you're not going to tell me who dies.

Cuse: Well, at least five people die.

Lindelof: But, you know, not like five major, major characters. But a couple of major characters.

Cuse: I think probably if you're a close viewer of the show you could name all five people.

Purgatory would also explain how everyones life history is known.

The "ONE" they are looking for could be a human that can teach the others to forgive their past and move on to heaven.

Oh, and yes by no new children I meant "Born/concieved" on the island. To be in purgatory you must have been born or concieved off island. Concieved implys still in mom when she died so you died with mom so you are born in purgatory with mom. Purgatory though you would think is not a place for a newborn child and it should goto heaven directly as an innocent but to maintain the illusion of reality on the show and for the people in purgatory it is simply just part of the show.

The hardest part to explain with the purgatory theory so far IMO is Juliet and how they recruited her. If it is really purgatory how did they manage to enter reality and recruit her. This can be explained in a couple ways but it also makes the show even more surreal. Either the other people brought in are also in purgatory but in another scenario of their own and the others on the island figured out how to interact with the other purgatories with the vessel (submarine) and recruit people using it or... The others have figured out how to communicate with the living via ghost whisperers and those people then kill the individuals they want to recruit, etc. Juliet wasn't put to sleep and transported on a submarine litterally. Juliet was actually killed...

A lot of the show revolves around learning the past of the characters and the evil that they did and how they are conflicted and tortured because of the decisions they made in their lives. Purgatory is giving them the chance to reflect on their past and move on forgiving themselves and the people that wronged them or continue down the path of evil and once that decision is made they die in purgatory and either go to heaven or hell.

So, if it turns out to be purgatory it will be a purgatory that is of course based on the catholic purgatory but a fantastic version of it that the writters took liberty with in order to make a good tv show.

If it isnt purgatory it is likely all real as we have been given it and the plane found with the passengers in it was a cover up by darma or the others or another as yet unseen power on the island.

You could explain things with the garden of eden but man was supposed to be banished from eden by god forever so finding eden should be impossible period. Then again TV is TV and they can make up their own rules.

The search for a way to allow children to be born on the island is an affront to god. It is an effort to create life so that the inhabitants of the island can create their own paradise within purgatory forever shunning hell and heaven. It is a better to rule in hell than serve in heaven type of attitude as in Blakes paradise lost etc. The others in purgatory want to stay and build a life in purgator instead of accepting gods law. It is an attempt to circumvent the rules.
