Jack "killed" his father by alienating him

Does killing your father put them in a special group for "the others"? Certainly seems to - look how interested the others were in Locke when he showed up with a bag over his shoulder...

Who else am I forgetting?

Hurley killed his father ?!

He was alive when hurley left for the airport to catch the plane?

well, we don't know if they made it home though

I wonder if they are going to make a return appearance...

via podcast, way back when after they first left, one of the writers said that they were OK and that their story would be picked up again at a much later date, like:

the season finale?

I think I just figured out information regarding the statues and ruins as well as the cave, tell me what you think:
The "hostiles" have been there for many years, since the ancient ages and have built their own society there. They went back to the ancient ages building old stone structures, but never really liked technology. Then the DHARMA Initiative moved there and they fought back. Just my thoughts.

Edit: I heard that season four will revolve around the ruins. Probably regarding what I just mentioned.

He was? I thought (been a while) that some of Hurley's bad luck had whacked his father. But ok then so it's only 5 out of the 15 main characters on the island that killed their own father, or lead to their father's death... oh wait, make that 6 - Ben also killed his father. That's pretty strange, don't you think?

Sawyer didn't kill his father. I think it was murder-suicide (mother-father) when Sawyer was a kid.

Sawyer killed Jack's father... and now Locke's.

I guess not. My bad.

I was getting something mixed up. Sawyer killed some other guy after meeting Jack's father in the bar...

Yeah, the person he thought was the real Sawyer.
One could technically say that Sawyer killed Jack's dad too because he was drinking with him when Christian Shepherd drank himself to death.

I think that too
I mean no offense, but you're both fools. Imagine you had never heard what they said - because most have not heard. What makes more sense?

1) They're in purgatory, the producers LIED to the audience, and stuff like Desmond's girlfriend looking for him and Juliette coming to the island NEVER HAPPENED.

2) The Others or their outside people faked the wreckage because they didn't want people searching for the island - OBVIOUSLY a priority given all the secrecy they've displayed - and the idea of purgatory is just a red herring. Instead, the Producers actually are TELLING us all that they're not dead because of things like Juliette coming to the island and Desmond's woman sending a person to find them.

If you do really think they're dead, how can you explain the woman crashing off the island? If you think she actually died in the crash and just ended up there, that still doesn't explain how she was looking for him. If there really was wreckage found, then nothing short of the anomaly that the people in Antarctica saw would prompt that woman to send search parties out. If there really was an anomaly, then they're not really dead. There really is no way they could be dead.

I still think that the "others" are a research society that has been there for a LONG time. They are not afraid or hate technology since they seem to have adapted and used the left over DHARMA sites and their technology. I think they have a complex elsewhere on the island that they base their operations out of although the barracks was probably better for them to live in so they moved in when the dharma was wiped out. The dharma probably found the island and all of its unique properties and wanted it all for them selves early on and brought the fight to the others. This episode explained a lot more than I would have imagined any episode showing. I didn't think dharma had that much of a presence on the island and expected to see each station with their projects working independently from each other and maybe communicating with each other every once in awhile. I would still like to see how Kelvin is involved and how he didn't explain the purge to anyone since he would have had to come after it. That's my thoughts for the moment.
