As for the episode last night, I enjoyed it. I agree with the poster above who found it strange that Jack just volunteers to protect the "heart of the island" without inquiring what it is or why, but he has changed quite a bit and is of the thinking that he belongs on the island for a reason, so I guess I can accept that he would volunteer for it.

I really appreciated the explanation of why Kate's name had been crossed off, though, and the follow-up comment of, "You can be it too, Kate, it's just chalk on a wall." Jacob was trying to find people who didn't have much to stick around for in their current lives to come and replace him, I like that concept. Although there have been hundreds of his candidates and flight 815 brought the last few, I'm wondering if we're to assume that MIB has killed all candidates before?

Damn, I have so many questions floating around in my head concerning the past 6 seasons as a whole, but I'm not even going to bother. The last episode is Sunday night, there's no sense in speculating anymore really. It's really been a great series, hate to see it go but would love to see some other concept similar to it replace it.

Loved the episode and can't wait for the wrap up on Sunday. My only gripe is that they killed off Sayid, who was Locke's right hand man, and then randomly replaced him with Ben for no apparent reason. Although Ben has always been kind of a complex character so perhaps things are not necessarily what they seem there.

Also, I actually didn't mind that Jack was selected to replace Jacob. Everyone knew this would happen. I've been going through season 1 with my GF who has never seen the show and even back then you can tell it was going to come down to those two. Some of the face shots of Locke make me wonder if they didn't know it was going to be a Locke v. Jack showdown in the end. They might not have known what was going to get them there but I think they knew from the beginning that it would come down to those two in the end.

Anyway, I don't think many people wanted it to be Kate or Sawyer, which leaves us with Hurley. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed that it wasn't him as he would have been the only 'oh wow' selection. The writer's showed some sense of humor when he said to Kate "I'm just glad it wasn't me." (or something like that)

Good show, just a few more days until it's all over though.

I like how Locke said "he helped me out" to Ben. Ironic if what I think is true turns out to be true.

Good episode. I agree with you, KeithTalent, definitely seemed to go too quickly. All the good episodes do, and this was very good.

Yeah, when he was flung into the trees, I wasn't really worried about him. He's been Jacob's right-hand man for 150 years or whatever it is. I'm sure MIB would've killed him by now if he could have.

He could only just not die on his own (old age, sickness, etc), or kill himself. That is why he wanted Jack to light the dynamite, then it would kill him.

So he could be dead right now. Although the flying air attack didn't seem too deadly

As a person that is called a hater, I have to say that it is things liek this that just have to stop. Basically throw logic to the wind and add a new plot device (cave of light) or simply say something that no one could have foreseen because IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DEDUCE.

God, Murder She Wrote had more foreseeable conclusions.

I actually think he might be dead. Before he wanted Alpert to join him, but now I don't think he has any need for him anymore. So why not kill him. He would only hinder MiB's progress.

And I'm not sure Jacob saved him from being killled, but just from aging.

FINALLY an episode that PROGRESSES THE STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed this episode a lot, although it is kind of whack how they are just killing off characters they've built up year after year like they are nobodies. I wonder if Richard is really dead.

I was happy when ben killed widmore though.

I dunno whether to hate them more or pat them on the back[the producers]. They essentially introduced a big paradox creating debates, arguments and major discussions about it when they initially revealed the names with Kates name crossed out and in the end Jacob simply said "it's just a line of chalk in the wall, the job is yours if you want it". Goes to show how much confusion they put into the show on purpose with no intent on making it of importance in any way.

I liked it a lot, probably tied with Happily Ever After for my favorite this season. It definitely helped that the alt storyline really started to come to a head this week. Even though some scenes, like Hurley showing up to pick up the escapees, came off sort of A-Team goofy, I felt like it worked, and made me just smile, laugh and enjoy the show like I used to. Locke/Jack and Desmond/Everybody else all starting to come together and put the pieces together has me really excited and giddy, as cheesy as it may be.

The island story was decent, I feel like the reveals there were decent and allowed the story to progress to a good place leading to the finale. I don't have a problem with the line of chalk explaination. Jacob had a list of people, he crossed one out because he thought she had a better purpose in life. I think we just have to get on with the fact that some things are going be explained by having surprising magical superpowers, and other things are going to be surprisingly unmagical. In this case, a list is just a list.

What I would like to know (and am not counting on) is how did Jacob pick this relatively small number people as candidates out of the 6 billion people in the world? I know he said it was because they're flawed, but how did he know of them specifically? Again, doesn't really matter at this point, just a curiosity.

Thanks, that's exactly what I forgot to bring up. He mentioned something to Desmond when he showed up that really made it seem as though he was very much aware of the island reality beyond the few short visions that we've been shown so far. Anyone remember what it was that he said, something about Ana Lucia maybe?
