Lost Birth Certificate

I was just @ the DMV, and I lost an original copy of my birth certificate somewhere between the counter and my friend's car in the parking lot. I called a generic state DMV hotline, and the rep said my local office would mail it to me if they found it. Exactly how precious is an original copy of my birth certificate? Should I go back and look for it (would require taking the bus or a 8 mi. round trip walk)?

You should be able to get a certified copy from wherever they keep original documents in the City where you were born. It may be a hassle, but it's better than being born again. (double meaning intended).

Actually, you can get a copy from the Department of Vital Statistics in your state. It's a pretty simple process.

I was just worried about it being used to steal my identity and/or navel because it's an official government document.

You can always get another from the town you were born in.

It is most likely that your ID will not be take.
But your Naval is being removed next week.
Be at the hospital at 8am on Weds.

It's a major pain in the ass to get a copy of your birth certificate.

If it were me I'd take the 8 mile round trip and search for it and if you still can't find it, then contact PA Vital Records.
