Lost Coast should be out tonight

I hadnt followed any of the news leading up to it, and just thought it was a free expansion to the game. But a tech demo that takes 5 minutes to complete was kind of a let-down.

Just finished playing Half - Life 2: Lost Coast. It was enjoyable and nice to get a very small tidbit extra from Half Life. The HDR is great even on my weak ATI graphics card things were running ok at maximum settings. Details such as the streaming beams of light thru the cathedral windows were breathtaking. It seems the Combine have been given some extra strength. You'll wish you had a harpoon for all of HL2!

There were some minor gripes, but we've been warned that it was a short demo. By short we're talking 8 - 10 minutes of gameplay (if you fly thru it) but I spent time taking all the beautiful scenery in and admiring the HDR effects so it was about 30mins. Plus some parts were a tad buggy - but that may be from my weak graphics card trying in vain to keep up with the resources to make it work; such as after a reload some of the Combine Troops remain in spawn poses but you can walk right thru them as well as some clipping and stuttering.

Valve provides a director / developer commentary that you can activate during the game that really fleshes out the demo technically.

So check it out. Bring on Aftermath!

Stuck in the cathedral :S

Just finished. Really liked it, but surprised it was so short. Took them quite a while....

Found a bug:

In the cathedral, the big chandelier is held by a rope that stays still when you hit it with your gravity gun.

Pic 6 is unreal. I thought it was a picture when I saw it first.

Check the requirments. Sounds like you need a new setup.

Weird, I get those same bugs. I thought one of them just died weird until I realized they were all that way.

it was a good little tech demo i think, of course i wish it was longer but it was fun none the less
the funny thing is that it took longer to d/l than to play

hdr works flawlessly on dod:s so that doesn't make much sense.

*edit* not to mention the recommended defaults that the game sets have full hdr selected.

No, it's just a level that I believe was left out of the original game (maybe I'm wrong). Either way it's just a short level that shows off their HDR lighting.

You're gonna kick yourself. Stick something in the canon and jam it.

Just stick an object in the gun machine, and it'll overload.

I have HL2, I can't get Lost Coast until Christmas because I can't download it here.
