Lost Data? Secondary HD now shows as Unallocated???

I took a SATA HD and put it into a USB enclosure but when i connect it to another system i can't see it in window explorer and under computer mgnt > disk mgnt it shows as "xxxgb unallocated"

I used to have GB's of data on that drive why i cannot see that data? This SATA drive came from another computer where it was setup as a secondary drive. Now it is seen as a n MBR under volumes/properties.

Does it means it got reformated? if so any apps i can use to recreate the original partition and or recover my data?

It didn't get formatted (unless you formatted it) but something is not being read properly and Windows is unable to read the contents of the drive. Any file recovery utility should be able to recovery the files you need but there may be a way to fix the drive so that you can see the files again. Have you tried putting the drive back into the original system where it came from?

Thanks MustISO, the problem is that the PC this HD came from has only one SATA "channel" working. The data on that drive does not contain XP on it so my plan was to load XP on another SATA, plug that to the PC and access the data from that drive through a USB enclosure.

I've tried acronis recovery expert but it can't find any partition on that drive, also tried a different SATA/USB enclosure and to read from a different PC but to no avail. I don't understand why it is not readable through a USB but since i have only one working SATA port on that mobo, is there a different tactic or another recovery program i should try?

Sounds to me like your partition table got corrupted or zapped. Have you looked into that or a MBR repair?

Thanks for your help MustISO & corkyg, looks to me that the MB is on it's lag leg and corrupted some on that drive. I've tried couple tools but none could read anything so i gave up and reformatted the drive :-(

This was the first htpc i've built back in the days thanks to people like you guys helping out novice like me!

It's really great to see that years later the same spirit that makes this forums so great is still stronger than ever!

should go with get data back. usually works even after a format (unless you used dariks or something of that nature)
