Just came back from vacation and experienced the rail system. I lost interest in cars and the value of owning one. Can't get myself to get motivated to get in the car and drive. The train, I get in and out, catch the tram every 15 minutes plus free exercise.

socal but I think this problem can be solved. I think the reason why we don't have this infrastucture is because of the car companies. Never felt worry free without a car.

Also saw many elderly people and young people who can bike uphill without any problems after drinking.

I'm not so sure putting a bunch of subway tunnels in a very active earthquake zone is a sound idea either. Besides, it costs money... something your state doesn't have.

Meh. Sounds kinda lame to be honest. I've ridden the metro in Atlanta and D.C. Being stuffed into a subway car with a bunch of other people isn't all that fun. I'd rather pay extra and have my own automobile. Much easier for grocery shopping too. I can't imagine taking five big shopping bags home on the rail system.

Besides, trains can't do burnouts.

I thought this was going to be a discussion about how cars have become flaccid, how a Toyota camry markets itself as "performance," how the pony cars have become a bunch of obese cows, how Italian exotics are now less about a blend of art and machine and more about a penis extension competition between a bunch of science dorks, and finally, how cars themselves have become no better looking than a dish washer.

And you talk about how you wanting a train service in SoCal makes you lose interest in cars???

Grocery shopping is not so bad. I had three bags at one time or you just shop what you need for two days.

Ummmm, probably not a conspiracy of the car companies. Rather, it's a conspiracy of tax payers not wanting to foot the bill to build it.

Come on. You're going to compare a porsche 911 to a freaking bus with the possibility of sitting next to a homeless person.

No thanks. I fill up my truck and I don't go grocery shopping for two weeks. I also don't feel like sitting next to a guy that's coming down off of crack looking to mug me.

There is a lot of character riding on the bus here in the us compare to europe but US is not bad compare to third world. In Europe most everyone rides the train. Comfortable and clean except when I tried to use the bathroom it was dirty but there is no one cleaning it because it was a holiday.

To each his own. I did the train & bus thing for 4 years while in college up in Chicago. And it sucked.

Good luck OP. Some people just don't like cars. That's OK. I'm just glad I'm not one of them.

please post a list of the cars you own/have owned

I bet regardless of experiencing the rail system, your cars, in themselves would make most people lose interest in cars.

Most of the people in Europe who ride the train live in big cities and can't afford a car. Believe me, the rich people aren't riding no train. Nothing wrong with riding public transportation and if I had a train stop in front of my house and in front of work I would consider the train but there is no way I would lose interest in Porsche/BMW/Mercedes/Ferrari. At least reading about them

They are an expensive hassle but living in the burbs is literally impossible without one or two.

Just go test drive something turbo charged and get a stiffy and you can throw those blue pills away... (just get something you really like...:thumbsup

Trains are ok but boring and should be for freight, amusement parks and the occasional cross country trip...

I get that a lot when I'm on travel and in planes and trams all day. Love take offs, makes every car feel slow.

That is until I'm back to reality and I spend two weeks in some slow boring rental car around the locals being smug douchebags in their slightly better rides zooming past me and show boating. Then I can't wait to get home back to a real car that bites back, and 10x harder than the aggressor.

My car might not have 150,000 lbs of thrust, but then again neither does anybody else's car, so it's all good
