So I decided to take some of my birthday cash and go out and buy a nice blu-ray player for myself. Well, I jumped the gun because my parents decided to surprise me with an even better one for my birthday.

So now I have two bluray players and only one HD TV. Both are unopened still in the box. My parents still have the receipt for the nicer one but I went, like a dumbass, lost my G-D receipt.

So what can I do? I can't seem to find any info on the return policies when you don't have a receipt and before I make the 45 minute drive I want to make sure it will be worth something.

Anyone know what the rule is? Have any experience returning stuff? Like I said it is unopened, so I don't know if that will help. What about restocking fees or anything?

Much appreciated.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I bought it at KMart.

what was the store you purchased it from? that has a lot to do with it.

and odds are you won't be able to return it (but again that depends on the store)

Have you talked to their service desk yet? If you put up a big enough stink, they might let you return it, since it's still unopened. They'll have a record of the sale in their system, so if you tell them on which day you bought it and what time of day, they might help you out.

take it back to Kmart. worst they can do is say no.

If they do take it to walmart. IF they carry the same item odds are they will take it back for store credit. Most allow you 3 returns without a reciept.

Nah, the store is pretty far out and I really didn't want to go out there without having some idea what I was doing.

There won't be a record in his name, no, but there will be a record of the item sold, the cost, and maybe even the serial number.

OP: Give em a call first. Kindly explain to them the whole situation.

Is there anyway to determine if walmart carries it?

Guess what I found by using a search engine instead of being a lazy ass and asking a question online... :roll:

KMart Returns Policy

change of mind returns

If you wish to return an item because you have changed your mind about your purchase, Kmart will offer you an exchange voucher or refund provided that:

* You return the item within 28 days of purchase;
* You produce your original Kmart register receipt at the timeyou return the item
* The item is in resaleable condition including that:
o It is in its original packaging, including instruction manuals and all accessories;
o It is unworn, unopened, unused and in its original condition;
o Any sew-in labels are still attached; and
In the case of computer games, CDs and DVDs the original security seal or shrink wrap is intact and that:
* The product is not one on which a change of mind return is not available (see below).

If these requirements are not satisfied Kmart reserves the right not to offer an exchange voucher or refund for change of mind returns.

Did you charge it to a credit card or did you pay in cash? If you charged it, it might be easier to obtain a copy of the receipt and expedite any return process.

I guess sometimes it is better just to bite your tongue and skip the fight.

Cash. This is one of those, 'never in a million years did I think I would have to return it' situations.

Do you remember the day and time you were in the store and around what time you checked out? You can always go talk to them - they should have security footage that they can review to show that you did in fact purchase said item on the day in question. The worst that can happen is they say "no" and you're stuck with a 2nd blu-ray player.

do you really think they would go to all that trouble? It was about 2-3 weeks ago and in the afternoon. I could probably get it pretty close, but I have a feeling I am going to drive out and they are just going to say "tough shit, see you later".

And wth could I do with a second bluray player, lol.

does anyone even use that anymore? OT moves at a snails pace as of late and PC gaming even worse. I can't imagine with how low attendance is that fs/ft is still up and going.

I am pretty sure, since it is still sealed there would be no problem not having a receipt. How else would they deal with gifts where the recipient does not have a receipt. If the price has dropped since you bought it though they will give you the lower price and it will be in the form of a store credit. I would just call the service desk and ask someone, then you have a name to drop (if needed) when you go to the store

As far as I know, yeah. I know I've sold 2 or 3 things there within the last year.

The people who are on FS/FT usually don't go to any other forums and exist only for FS/FT.

Don't they require a receipt?

Not as far as I know. As long as they have the item in stock, they'll take it. I've never tried it myself, but I've had numerous acquaintances tell me that when they lose a receipt for a fairly common item, they just take it right back to Walmart.
