Lost Partition Pls HELP

Hi,
I am needing so help and direction pls. I had a large HDD that was split into 2 partitions C: and D:. I had to reload Win XP and due to the size off the HDD win XP only sees 127g so I formatted that and placed windows on it, Hoping I could recover the lost D: partition after install. I have tried Paragon Patition Manager to search for the partition to try to recover it but no luck. Does anyone have any advice as what else I can do to recover the Data from that old partition. TIA

I'm not good at partition recovery. Hopefully somebody can help you there. Hmmm...you took a drive with an existing partition structure, re-partitioned it with software that doesn't know about the rest of that large hard drive, formatted the new partition, and installed XP. If your original C: partition was larger than 127 GB, you might be OK. Otherwise, that could be a problem.

I'd probably try locating the files with something like GetDataBack. You can use the trial copy to see what can be recovered.

If you have have to do this again, for XP use NLite to slipstream your XP Install CD to SP1 or higher. That way, it can see you existing large drive and partitions.

I used Getdataback for a recovery like that but I removed the hard drive and mounted using a USB2.0 removable hard drive enclosure that keep the windows partion for interfering with your computer if you tried the recovery from just mounting the drive directly to your system and booting up with it. It will take awhile to recover your system if you have a large hard drive and you need at least and much freespace on a hard drive to recover to although can do a selective backup of just the files you need. I had forgotten about this issue. All I can say is this: What a drag, man.

It would make you careful about keeping a slipstreamed XP install disc handy.

My own worst problem at the moment was to discover that a RAID5 array on my file server uses a dynamic partition, and I simply can't clone it to a hot-swap IDE or USB drive. That just means more work for me.
