lost reciepts from business trip?

i lost about $1800 worth of recipets from a business trip i took for the company. i did not have a corporate card so i had to expense everything myself. long story short i lost all of them(not sure how). my company doesnt require us to submit the recipets in order to get expensed...but they'll ussally send out those auto-emails telling you to submit them afterwards....

am i screwed here? i expensed everything on one credit card so i supposed i could pull up a statement of everything that was purchased but im not sure thats good enough...

If you charged them to a CC, you can call up the CC company to see if they can get you a copy of the receipts.

If it were me, and I've done a lot of reimbursable traveling) I'd treat those receipts like they were cash...which they essentially are since you get reimbursed for them.

I always kept my receipts in envelopes with a ledger of what each one was for and where I spent the money. That usually eliminates any questions by the bookkeeping department.

They'd let me go as long as it didn't happen often and wasn't too much money.

$1,800 is probably too much to let go without some actual evidence. Usually, you can come up with something, like the CC charges.

My guess is that a big chunk of that is probably hotel expense and car rental expense. Most hotels will fax you a copy of your receipts without any problems, and car rental you may be able to get an e-receipt from their website if you need one. (Avis e-mails me a receipt every time after I return my car) That should take care of a big chunk of the expenses.

As with LTC8K6, my company usually lets you off the hook if it's a one time thing but if you could make a copy of the cc statement that shows the charges, that might help your cause. If you can at least get the hotel and car receipts reprinted, in the even they don't reimburse you, you won't be too deep in the hole.

That was my thought when I first entered this thread. I'm sure the company will love to hear it though. You lose receipts worth $1800 (after reimbursement), what else will he lose?

Wow you really need to push for per diem so you don't have to keep up with that many receipts. Granted if it is a short trip and the majority is flight/hotel/car then that's a different story. But if you're keeping up with weeks of receipts for food, drink, etc. then that's ridiculous.

One my my receipts was just questioned for a business trip I took two weeks ago. The name at the top was the co-worker who made the reservations for the rooms instead of our own names for the rooms.

Credit Card statement printout = problem solved at my place.

hotel and car rental company will give you another copy. for the rest, i think CC statement maybe good enough.
