May I suggest, for convenience, we just call the fake Lock, Flocke?

OK, so the two separate timelines are bomb worked, bomb didn't work.

You have Jack and others on the plane in 2004. Island underwater. Bomb worked.
You have Jack in the temple in 2007. Island above water. Bomb didn't work.

Two things come to mind.

Are they really separate timelines or could the 2004 timeline progress in such a way that that it fits into the 2007 timeline and there is just one timeline, shown at different times?

If they are separate timelines, can characters ever cross timelines to replace people who have died in the other timeline?

I think its one timeline. One to show the outcome of never being on the island, to them crashing on the island....

why wasnt boones sister shannon on the plane?
Or how/why did Charlie end up with his heroin in his throat instead of flushing it like last time? I'm not sure if any of those small differences are actually important.

The new time line changed a lot more than just the flight landing. There were tons of little changes. So the outcome went farther back to effect their lives than just having flight 815 land safe.

I think the 2004 and 2007 timelines are separate

2007 timeline has no bomb with fake Locke and company and Jack & crew warping to 2007

2004 timeline has bomb going off and everything that would have proceeded with no plane crash

I really don't see how the 2007 timeline can be a continuation of the 2004 timeline.

Because it's not.

The story is in current time - but we're getting to see how it plays out if the plane never crashed and in current time as the events unfold...

I don't know, maybe it's the beer talking, but I have an odd theory (I'll spoiler it, even though it's kind of dumb):

Playing on the whole God vs. Devil thing that we saw on the beach prior, is it possible that the two possible timelines are sort of a Heaven and Hell and the guys are fighting for their souls? That leaves a lot of unanswered stuff though about Dharma and everything, but maybe if the good/evil guy have been sort of playing this game for centuries and there is maybe something special about these guys that it forces them to actually try and kill each other? Maybe the island is Heaven? I don't know, I'm just blathering now.

I have not really read much stuff on the web about Lost before, so maybe this has been discussed and shot down. It' also too far out there and I have no idea how that would actually resolve itself, but it's just a thought.

There seems to be a lot of differences between pilot and tonight's episode.

#1 Casket never made it on the plane
#2 Desmond is on the plane
#3 Shannon isn't on the plane
#4 Hurley now has good luck

etc..

And the Charlie thing. The Desmond situation is the only one that seems like it could be directly impacted by the bomb, though...

I have never watched Lost before but tonight I was channel surfing and decided to check out some of it. Anyway, it looks like a good show and I'm thinking of going back and watching from the beginning. The problem is, tonight I saw the part
about the bald guy being the "monster".
Have I spoiled it too much for myself or would it still be worth it to go back and watch?

I've watched every season so far and have been watching the first season again and even though I already know what's gonna happen it still keeps me glued to my seat. I barely remember the first season since it's been a while and you can watch every season on abc right now to boot! So I'd say go for it, I'm loving the re-watch.

If you thought the episodes tonight were good, then you'll think the first 3 seasons were amazing. Which they were.

If you're going to watch it, put Locke being the monster out of your mind entirely. It does not apply AT ALL for the first four seasons. The bald guy (Locke) in season 5 and 6 is a different person than the Locke in seasons 1-4. You don't need to know why, but seriously, it's NOT the same person.

Yeah and the wound on Jack's neck. Also everyone's hair is slightly different but that's just nitpicking.

Definitely worth going back and starting from the beginning. Some people disliked Season 2, though I did not mind it that much, but it gets strong again after that. Beautiful show on Blu-ray too.

What?! Season two was the best. Except for the Charlie thing, didn't really like that.

I read on another forum that originally, the stewardess didn't give Jack a second bottle but did on tonight's episode? or was it the reverse?

anyways, apparently it's significant and was intentional.
