When I saw it I didn't see Gollum, but I thought it was the bird's nest in the eye

<< my god you've wasted 21 hours of your life in that movie theater! >>

Man... what are you talking about? Even though I've only seen LOTR once, I'd go see it again. Chalk me up for another $7 night at the Forum 30.

<< I *just* saw it for the first time last night. I was impressed. I had never read the books, in fact, I would have ordered the trilogy tonight had I not suspected Amazon.com of jacking up the price due to the movie being out. There was lots of stuff I was unsure about, but reading OT's past posts cleared them up mostly.

I was slightly disappointed with the wizard battle. I was expecting all kinds of flashy spells going off left and right, instead they just tossed each other around.

The balrog was cool as hell. Gandolf saying "You shall not PASS!" put chills up my spine.

I *knew* there was some reason (besides the obvious one) they lingered on the statues so long. I missed golem though

yeah i was expecting magic missle at the minimum! chain lightning would have been nice.

I was going to see it again today but they had sold out!!! even after this long.. so I just saw From Hell and that was a ok flick, very much so worth seeing on video but just maybe in a theater.

I saw it once and that was too much. Next time they do a movie maybe they will get it right. There was way too much chopped out. Where is Glorfindel? (not the one who fought the Balrog but the one who rode Asfaloth) Where is Forn, arguably one of the most interesting characters in the book? Why is Undomiel on the road at all?

Maybe you'd like to fund a 30 hour trilogy? Come on man...do you really freakin think they can release a movie longer than 3 hours in a theater? I think they did damn good for the time they were given! Oh yeah...movies and books, different things!
I still like what isildur said on the forums a while ago and it applies here:

<< In the future, if you have a complaint about a deviation - ask yourself: what is gained by adding this scene? How can it be filmed? How long should it be? Does it move the movie along? Does it drag?
The scenes you suggest adding would do nothing but make this film weaker, slower, more convoluted and, in the end, less effective.

I heard the dvd was going to have unreleased movie footage that was cut due to time constraints. Is this true ?

On the TV the other night (not sure exactly what show, but I think it was E!) they said the special edition DVD will be out before the next movie comes out (1 year) and it is supposed to be an uncut/unedited version that is 4 1/2 hours long. Can't wait for that one!

I thought they did a pretty good job with the movie. It's gotta be hard to make even a 3 hour version of such an epic book. They did take some liberties though and I wish they had choreographed the fight scenes better. Too much "motion blur". Probably to make it look exciting and gloss over mediocre swordplay. Still, it had a lot more detail than I thought it would.

if these LotR ppl are cruel smart business people, they'll release the movies in perfect timing, so u could get the dvd of the previous part of the collection while watching the next in the theaters...(get it? :confused
that way, people will watch the next, buy the first, and on and on...
and then they'll release an overpriced dvd trilogy with...GASP...THE HOBBIT?
everyone would have to RE-BUY the dvd trilogy, so they'll end up owning 2 copies of each LotR just so they can have the trilogy and the hobbit...
damn shrewd bastards

I saw something... didn't realize it was Golum though. Might have to see this movie for the 3rd time.

BTW... I glanced at the movie mistake list. Found this:

The two portraits in oval frames hanging above the fireplace in Bag End are of Peter Jackson and Phillipa Boyens

Another easter egg?:Q

<< Well here's another reason for me to go see the film again...

Apparently when the fellowship are on the Great River and pass The Pillars of Argonath (the two huge statues), there is a shot that tracks along the head of the one statue close up...and then you see some birds fly off it and if you look closely you will see Gollum perched on one of the eyelids watching the boats go by!!!!!

The first time I saw the movie, I noticed the figure, but didn't really think much of it. Thought it was a glitch possibly. The second seeing however, I noticed the shape of the figure. Right then I put 2 and 2 together and realized it was gollum. I thought it was a pretty neat touch. I guess I didn't think of it as an easter egg though or I might have said something sooner.

I was slightly disappointed with the wizard battle. I was expecting all kinds of flashy spells going off left and right, instead they just tossed each other around.

Many of my friends said something to the same effect, but my take on it is this:

1. This is not D$D, whole different sort of wizard in Tolkiens world

2. Nothing like magic missile etc ever happened in the books.. in the hobbit gandalf enchants some pincones and they explode, but thats about it.

I honestly think they way they did the wizard duel was consistent with the portrayal of wizards by tolkien.... More a battle of Will, then throwing around fire and lightning.

That being said.. I thought many of the Scens with the Uruk Hai were bery chesy and Xena-esque... especially the roaring closeups and the wirde voices... . those scense seemed out of place witht he rest of the movie, as if they had been shot for Xena or Hercules....

Other than that, great great great movie. Its definatley in my all time favorite slot. I thought that the scense were done well for fighting..... The pace was fast, and I think that was meant to give a sense of excitement, as well as to illustrate how skilled the fighters of the fellowship were.
