I know there were going to be quite a few releases for Lord of the Rings on DVD, but I'm not sure if this is the "super-duper special edition" or not (Release date is set for 11/12/02). Anyways, I saw this in an e-mail that Best Buy sent out.

If you previously purchased Blackhawk Down or Ocean's 11 with the $10 GC, this would be a great opportunity to use it. Then you'd be able to preorder LOTR 4-disc set for $19 (!!!).

MSRP is $39.99 I think.

Actually I think the super duper version comes with little statue bookends or something. I don't see that listed in that link.

Still a hell of a deal, regardless.

Edit: Looks like you get the extended cut of the movie with the above deal (as well as a lot of other stuff listed on the page). But the link to (presumably) the version for the absolute fanatics is here. Best Buy doesn't have all the info for it up yet (it says it only has one disc) and hopefully it will be cheaper elsewhere.

Very good deal on the 4-disc set, though.

That is not a bad price but if you want to order the normal version you can get a $10 digital coupon with it.

If you do a search on dvdpricesearch you can find it for $29.47 shipped from Deepdiscountdvd which was the
cheapest if you are not ordering a bunch of DVD's.

The real super duper version (bookends one) comes to around $80 - too costly, I think I'll just go with the DVDs only. Thanks

I'm holding to hold and wait for this (see post dated 06/18/2002 4:07 PM by kami).

Now I gotta find how to use my Black Hawk Down $10 GC before it expires since it won't be on LOTR.

No thread crappin, but you can pre-order the 4 Disc Extended edition at Deep Discount for $29.47 w/ Free Shipping.

Rossman: I believe the 5 disc set is that Collector's Edition with the Figurines and the 5th disc is the National Geographic disc. Deep Discount has it Here for $49.84. Its also being released/delivered on Nov 12th.

Next Tuesday (6/25) you can get the regular version free with a $25 10-week Blockbuster 1 rental a week card. That is the deal for me I will see the deleted sceens on the net then determine if it is worth the extra DVD. Also I hear the director will be releasing a 40 minute preview of Two Towers will this be on all of the DVDs?

I wanted teh rated R version. Why cant they just produce one that is longer. I dont care if it is not as good as the released version R + Longer is better for a die hard LOFTR fan

What would there be in a R rated version? There was no T&A in the books, and I don't think chopping off the heads of non-humans (orcs) would rate an R.

Actually, last I heard the movie is on two DVDs, with the other two being extra stuff. But, on those first two movie DVDs you get some awesome stuff like multiple commentaries and cool stuff like that, I think...

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT???

I just read the Silmirillian and the Hobbit and the "R" version is where they show you how Bilbo REALLY got the ring from Smiegel. Not this "farse" where he bent over and found it.

OH, he bent over alright and THAT'S how he got the ring. And that crap about Smiegel (gollum) chasing him to get the ring back. You know what they say about the wrath of a spurned lover and all ;-)

I want to see the X version

From Best Buy web site:
The content on this extended version and the August theatrical DVD will be unique, so plan on adding both of them to your collection to complete your Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring set.

LINK

I'll probably end up getting both...

3 words. Trilogy...Boxed...Set.

DVD Trilogy Wishlist:
LOTR Trilogy
Godfather Trilogy (with a decent transfer)
Back to the Future Trilogy
Indiana Jones Trilogy (+ that possible new one)
Matrix Trilogy (oh yeah!)

And lets not forget the never-ever-going-to-live-to-see-it-happen release of the Holy, Non-Special-Edition, you-know-what-I'm-about-to-say....

Original Star Wars Trilogy. :|

Just saw that they're FINALLY releasing the Back To The Future flicks on DVD and a 3-flick box is an option.

Beast Buy link says that it's $27.99, not $29.99. Even better!!!

I saw LOTR only once and aren't that big a fan, but when they're all done and they have the 12-disc SuperMegaUltimateSpecial Edition, I may get that.

Now, give us the Star Wars movies!!!!
