Patch notes @ the lorebook here:
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki...lume_2_Book_7_Official

I don't have much experience with the other titles they've done and by all accounts ddo was a pretty big failure, but the show they're running here does deserve a lot of credit. Some of the good things from this one are the quest tracking helpers, in place revival, and crafting instances (much of which is past experiences is to be believed will find their way to others including the "big brother").

About the only thing I'd like to see more of/improve would be pvp; but to a degree that's limited by how many people play the game and are willing to go into the pvp zone. But if you've never tried it you should check it out, a recent pcgamer review of all mmos not called wow placed this first on what you should try and you can buy the latest version of the game for only $30, which unlike just about all others contains the original edition too (or so I read from the press releases so I take no blame if it doesn't. . ).

I just downloaded the free trial and yeah you can upgrade it to the MoM expansion (which does contain the original). No idea what all these "book" things are though. Guessing just their version of a content update??

Content update and new part of the storyline.

Lothlorien was a farming spot for everyone wanting Second Age Legendary Items... found myself a lvl 60 2nd Age Hunters Bow there which netted me way too much Gold.

Each book is their way of divided the actions you do in game as you help or follow the route of the fellowship. It's kinda like an epic quest line in the game to follow and see the story of the printed books develop.

Okay so since I would be brand new and will have neither helped nor followed anything, do I really fit into the game at all?

On the good side, something I didn't mention is that they've lowered XP to rank up so that will be shorter for you. The games does have a heavy does of lore from the books (although if you've only seen it via the movies like me you will still be able to catch the many references and places).

If you've never read/watched either, you may be wondering where you are heading or why you are doing some things, but it still provides the basic directions of any mmo to complete your quest.

I have really liked many of the additions with this latest content release. The crafting instances are really nice for getting come good Rewards for legendaries that you are trying to level up. Tried to swim to Lorien but got sniped by Elven archers. They were not joking when they said you had to have reputation to get in there!

Are these crafting instances solo capable or are they group ones? That was the only thing I couldn't determine for sure from the little reading I've done on it so far.

Crafting instances are solo.

I played it and tried really hard to like it, but it just didn't do it for me. I think it was a combination of playing on an extremely sparse server with the lack of PVP. I'm a PVP lover so I play Warhammer now.

LOTRO held my interest for a while but it still doesn't have a real endgame. It's worth playing if you recognize that it is about the journey rather than the finish, but IMO the main replayability is in the form of alts rather than the "PvP" or endgame instance implementations.

yeah right now i'm more inclined to start LOTRO than REstart Warhammer. (30 Shaman + 24 Warrior P.). Seems like it's more or less the same, if quite a bit faster paced. Still within the 10 day trials for both though so there's time yet!

Well, I play on Silverlode and have no idea of any other AT players. Seems to be a good server with lots of players but not so many that they have excessive down time.

I'm on Brandywine, fair number of restarts due to being the most populous server.

Looks like this is a free weekend for those previous players with inactive accounts.

51 Lore Master on Brandywine. Finishing up Angmar and then heading south. So far I like Lotro better than WoW or AoC. I read the books and saw the films so it all makes sence. If you like MMOs then give it a try.

It may not be as polished on the end game raid aspect as the big gorilla, and pvp is tacked on compared to others, but about everything else with the game puts it at the equal or superior to all other products.

Who's your LM? I'm thinking about shelving my hunter for the time being and working on my LM (L56, I think). Book 7 went overboard in correcting hunter damage.

Yea, I have yet to try out most of the content from book 7. Anyone tried the gift boxes in Lorien? Heard that you can get class 2nd age legendaries but that is not guaranteed. Would be nice to upgrade my current setup.

i play a RK on brandywine. played a hunter up to about 40 before (which is where i'm at on my RK) but as soon as RK were announced i knew i wanted to play one.

if you enjoy PVE you'll love it. the graphics are also very nice. makes wow look twice as outdated as it actually is.

Got a level 40 Guardian on Nimrodel. Really enjoying it a lot. I don't have a lot of time to play (an hour or two here and there) and this game has worked out perfectly for that. I can feel like I've accomplished something in that time frame, or seen something cool (going to visit Weathertop or Rivendell for instance).

Book 6 comments:

I always thought Hunters were a little weak anyway.

Never saw a Hunter in Lothlorien that could farm faster than my Champ. They could single target DPS marginally faster than me and 2v1 and above I outkilled them.

Champs had fast bow pulling inbuilt which meant I could tag a mob quicker. Very useful.
