FREE stuff is the best! Ashampoo Firewall Is awesome as well.
Most people do not realize that most of the free (legit) software is better than the software you pay for.

It's so true..whenever I setup a friend's computer with freebies like AVG/Avast/Antivir, Zonealarm, Spybot, Adaware, CCleaner, etc., they're like wait wait I want to buy Norton or McAfee and I just laaaaauuuugh

How is a free A/V that have "borrowed" virus definitions better than that of a company that develops their own? Secondly these definitions a lot of "free" companies implement are geared for enterprise/corp. environments -- I don't know about you guys but my network certainly isn't behind HW firewalls, IPSes, and strict security policies. I am a regular consumer and I get "attacked" a different way than a business does...

Anyway! I use Avast myself but if I had to chose between, say, AVG or Kaspersky if they were both handed to me.....Kasp would win hands down EVERY time.

I am not sayinf that EVERYTHING that is free vs cost is better. At this point I think Avira (sp?) is better than avg free and is.. well free.
But MOST programs.. and OS's alike that a free vs cost are better. IMO.

I have a hardware firewall, because I have extra hardware lying around, that makes it all worth it. I use coyote Firewall on an old POS Compaq microatx box that my mom used to use.

I got the Ashampoo software!!! I use the firewall, burner software and most of the others that they offer..

Once you get the free software they send you emails on deals for the newer software and the prices are CHEAP!!!!!

You got to love a company that keeps the users in mind...

Great software! After getting the Ashampoo free software you get emails with great deals on all of the rest of the software they make.

I got the Ashampoo burning studio. Works pretty well, good alternative to Nero 6.6 that I found doesn't work in Vista (though I still prefer Nero). I had burning studio 6 free but the 2009 version is a nice upgrade.

Yes, after switching two different PCs over to Avira Antivir when they were previously using AVG Free, and the initial scans finding things that AVG Free did not, I no longer recommend AVG Free to anyone.
