I was told by Sprint that there is no way to prevent your number from being displayed when calling an 800 number...is there a proven workaround?

You can have the operator dial the number just tell the that your 8 key is broken or something. Caller I.D. wont be processed through a 800# It's impossible they track you by a thing called a ANI. Having the operator dial will make you loose your ANI. However they need to pull up a ani log to get your phone #. Most companies I doubt know how to do this. Somthign you request from the operator.

you can also just use a payphone...Every payphone i have ever used to dial a 800 number was free and I dont care if any of those companies has that payphone number

Too bad Net2Phone and Dialpad are no longer free. My suggestion is pay phone with a prepaid fone card, just so you not only save on each call, but you also don't have to look silly carrying 50-60 quarters to a pay phone.

You're absolutely right about dialpad. But net2phone provides the first five minutes for free. However, they may require some sort of prepayment in case you go over the time limit.

From their site:
Enter a number and click "DIAL." It's as easy as that! You can now call any regular telephone, anywhere in the world, right from your PC. U.S. residents can call anywhere within the U.S. for up to five minutes free and anywhere in the world for as low as 2.9¢ per minute.

I don't know if this is a Texas thing, but pretty much every pay phone i've ever been too allows you to make 800 calls for free....
