Loud and Annoying Pioneer Slot Loading Drive (105S)

Just installed this brand new OEM bare bones drive. I am playing a CD and the drive has high pitched buzz saw-like sound. Is this the way all Pioneer drives are? If so, I am returning it and asking for refund. If not, I will ask for a replacement.

I have heard others complain about this problem with the pioneer 105 and 104 DVD players. Mine does not do that so you may be smart to replace it - it is a great drive.

103s here... best damn drive I ever had. Not noisy at all... no more than any other drive. That plus a Hollywood+ card and a Radio Shack RF modulator, and I have a nice little home entertainment center

Hmmm, maybe I will ask for a replacement, then... This drive just makes a very high-pitched sound when a cd is placed in it. I also have a Plextor 8/4/32 CD R/W which is incredibly quiet. No noise whatsoever when playing a CD in it. There is such a huge contrast between the Plextor and the Pioneer that it makes the Pioneer completely unbearable. I will ask for a replacement, but I am wondering if the problem is that it is 16X... maybe the 10X and 6X drives arent as bad.

My 16X Pioneer is very loud when accessing data disks....it's more quiet when playing DVD movies.

The Plextor 12X/10X/32X is much much more quieter when accessing data disks....

I bought a Pioneer 10x/40x tray drive earlier this year, but I couldn't stand the sound of the drive when it spun up. I actually ended up trading down to a Toshiba 6x/32x. The 6x is much, much quieter and is natively region-free to boot.

How about Aopen (I believe they uses Pioneer drive) ?

MY Pioneer dvd 114 is a bit of a pain in the arse. Its alittle loud and it takes a thousand years for it to spin down and eject.

I decided to take advantage of the brandsforless $20 off deal (+ the shipping rebate) and get the Toshiba SD-M1402 DVD drive through computers4sure for $101 shipped. I requested an RMA for the Pioneer drive. Just a bummer that I have to settle for a tray loading dvd drive... Oh well, as long as it's quiet I will be happy.
