Loud noises, then xp freezes

UGh.. when im playing games on my pc.. sometimes it likes to freeze up and make horrrrible repetitive sounds as if it was stuck

i have athlonxp, ecs board w/ sdram, philips acoustic edge (newest drivers), geforce 2 gts (newest drivers).. think it could be heat? i have a few fans blowing across everything.. im really clueless on this one

no, from my speakers... pretty much as if the audio froze up too

Are you overclocking anything or is this all stock?? If you are overclocking, it may be heat. The sound stuttering is just part of the lock up. If you were plaing an MP# and it locked up, it would do the same. I would start by looking at the video card. Does it have a fan/heatsink?

yeah.. vid card has a hsf on it... i could try giving it more space or just put a full size fan next to my open case to see if i still lock up ever.... but no oc'ing here

my friend had the SAME problem.

Turned out to be his SB Live! Value card. What sound card do you have? Does the "freezing" also occur when you watch movies or listen to music?

doesnt happen during music, and i dnot watch movies.. btw i already said what sound card

I been having the same problem I have try a few soundcard and the sblive does it all the time got it to stop locking up as much by moving my soundcard to another slot on the MB and it move the soundcard to irq 5 its seem to help .I'm using the same 1700xp and the ECS mb K7S5A and a geforce 2. I hope this helps
