Modern-day gorillas beat their chests to make noise, per ancient instincts which compel them to assert dominance.

We've evolved beyond our apelike ancestors.

Now we have access to far more advanced chest-beating technology, used to satisfy those primitive urges that some of us refuse to stifle.

The loud motorcycles are one of the things I hate about summer, coupled with having to put an air conditioner in the window on the side of the building that faces the road, so it allows in more outside noise, including from people who sit at the intersection and rev the engine on their motorcycle, and then peal out to make as much noise as possible.

Someone back at college had a gas-powered motorcycle that was quiet. Exceptionally quiet. I wanted to have his babies, it was just that quiet.

But I have to rev my Harley at stop signs. I 'tuned' my carb so that it idles at 150rpm and goes blop...blop..blorpedy...blop. If I don't rev it endlessly, my shitty 80's version of a dinosaur engine will die.

I had a neighbor (thank god he moved) who was always working on his Harley, every weekend AM he was in the driveway re-jetting the carb or something followed by the "start 'er up and test 'er out" vrroom-paah, vrrooom-pah, 10-15 time in a row, with straight pipes, it sucked...

And they're always really pathetic 80's/90's bikes to boot. If some dude was tuning his 1950's or ealier Harley (obligatory 'I think they're still making those'), I'd have a little more respect for it. But dudes with actual quality classic bikes (or cars) generally know better than to make that kind of racket. Every adjustment isn't followed by bringing it to redline ten times.

Plus, tuning a single bike carb? If you take more than five minutes, you're an assclown.

There are people that are just as bad in the sportbike crowd, too. I literally lost a good bit of my hearing in one ear the other day for a good few hours- dipshit on a sportbike passed by me with my window down in what I'm guessing was a redlined first gear. All he was doing was making noise; I caught up to him without any effort, and was honestly tempted to nudge his back tire out from under him. I let it slide when I noticed a) he was weaving back and forth coming up to lights, assumably to avoid disengaging the clutch b) he was almost falling over while weaving c) he was redlining gears because he was scared to shift and d) when he took off from low speeds, he was doing accidental wheelies and hanging his feet to the rear like he expected the bike to come out from under him at any minute.

I figured why injure him, when if I leave him alone, hopefully he'll die on his own.

I want to modify my exhaust to make it louder for me. I like the way a V8 sounds when it's uncapped, and a V8 should always sound like that.

I dislike extremely loud bikes. My dad bought a '12 Harley Sportster 883 that came with a non-factory exhaust, and it's a bit louder than stock, but it's not one of those excessively loud bikes.

My brother had a Gold-Wing. Flat six, plenty of power and nice and quiet.

When it comes to motorcycles the Harleys are akin to the American muscle cars, the sport bikes are akin to the asian sport cars and the Gold Wing is akin to a mobile home.

Sure, it has power but it weighs so much that all of the power is used to just get it moving.

My car is loud because I want it loud. If you don't like it, then good it's serving a double purpose.

I also don't understand those people that put those fart cans on their cars. You pay for that shit? Give me a beer, a screwdriver, and $10 and I can do the same thing with any car in minutes...

Yeah we have a guy around the corner with a ridiculous "hog". It shakes the house when he goes by...it's louder than the kids with big subwoofers in their cars.

But this dude is badass....school teacher during the week, outlaw on the weekend.

Kinda sad.

Probably, I was washing my car one day when I heard a crotch rocket revving behind me, some dude was hauling ass, tried to stop by using the front brake, problem was he was on pine straw that accumulates in my area, the wheel locked up and slid then it hit pavement again and he was airborne. After flying briefly like superman he slammed into a basketball hoop in my neighbors yard, I ran over and called 911, he had a separated shoulder, broken arm and multiple contusions. I lied to the cops when they got there saying I didn't see him, just heard the crash, figured he'd already suffered enough for his foolishness, later on I find out he tried to sue my neighbor for having the basketball hoop close to the street (it wasn't), case got thrown out, and to boot the bike was for sale, he was test-riding it!!.

Showing the world how much of a douche you are is the second purpose?

Seriously, the rest of the world shouldnt have to listen to your vehicle being insanely louder than it needs to be

What if a neighbor decided his lawn tractor sounded "cool" with the muffler removed and when he ran it you couldn't hear a TV or talk to anyone in your house the whole time he used it, would you just say, "oh well, I guess loud lawn tractors turn him on, I'll just have to live with it" or would you suggest to him to put the muffler back on to preserve your sanity??..

I did something like that with my old Sears lawnmower.

The muffler was completely rotted out and rusted so bad into the engine there was no way to remove it for replacement.

I used it to cut the lawn even though it was extremely loud, especially when it hit heavy grass. It was louder than most Harleys. lol

My neighbour used to annoy me by putting her yappy dog outside at 6 AM and it would bark nonstop until 8 AM. I couldn't sleep. I told her to knock it off. She didn't care. She said if the dog was inside it would bark and wake her son up.

This gave me an idea. I decided to start cutting my lawn at 8 AM and make sure that it made lots of noise between the 2 houses. She came out and started bitching at me about the noise waking her son. I told her the lawn needs to be cut and I will continue doing so everyday until her dog was no longer being let out to bark all morning. She relented after 4 days.

it's always the clowns on the motorcycles. Noise abatement reg's on the horizon. Cops will have a field day writing expensive tickets and cycleboy will have to comply / repair / restore to register and insure. Noise abatement reg's will require quieter motorcycles each year and tighter compliance enforcement.
