I'm sure you meant to say this.it's always the KOOKs on the motorcycles. Noise abatement reg's on the horizon. Cops will have a field day writing expensive tickets and cycleboy will have to comply / repair / restore to register and insure. Noise abatement reg's will require quieter motorcycles each year and tighter compliance enforcement.
Just like people put tattoos on their bodies, or wear religious themed jewelry. etc. Want attention.
I think in CA it's enforced but often only enforced for import-branded vehicles because the police are biased against imports. Here in CA it's illegal to modify any vehicle to make it louder than stock. I believe this is not enforced because plenty of police officers own these vehicles too. I've also seen retired police officer associations that have their own bike club.
Harleys are loud because they're not fast.Wow, people really don't know why motorcycles are loud? The first response to the OP is a clue.
Sounds like a win-win. Actually running any engine with no exhaust restriction at all usually results in burnt exhaust valves as the hot gases scream past the open valve very fast..I did something like that with my old Sears lawnmower.
The muffler was completely rotted out and rusted so bad into the engine there was no way to remove it for replacement.
I used it to cut the lawn even though it was extremely loud, especially when it hit heavy grass. It was louder than most Harleys. lol
My neighbour used to annoy me by putting her yappy dog outside at 6 AM and it would bark nonstop until 8 AM. I couldn't sleep. I told her to knock it off. She didn't care. She said if the dog was inside it would bark and wake her son up.
This gave me an idea. I decided to start cutting my lawn at 8 AM and make sure that it made lots of noise between the 2 houses. She came out and started bitching at me about the noise waking her son. I told her the lawn needs to be cut and I will continue doing so everyday until her dog was no longer being let out to bark all morning. She relented after 4 days.

Neighbor has a Mustang Saleen that my Roommate complains about how loud it is all the time. It sounds beautiful to me. If it was humanly possibly to upgrade my Sky Redline to be loud and growl like that I'd do whatever it took.
for the same reason teh lion rawrs

Right: dumb animals looking for attention.

Similar reason why Harleys get away with being louder than a dump truck.
Harleys are loud because they're not fast.
Showing the world how much of a douche you are is the second purpose?
Seriously, the rest of the world shouldnt have to listen to your vehicle being insanely louder than it needs to be
What if a neighbor decided his lawn tractor sounded "cool" with the muffler removed and when he ran it you couldn't hear a TV or talk to anyone in your house the whole time he used it, would you just say, "oh well, I guess loud lawn tractors turn him on, I'll just have to live with it" or would you suggest to him to put the muffler back on to preserve your sanity??..
Yes, I certainly do.I suppose you consider rock and roll to be noise pollution also?
You can always roll your window up!
I was behind a 2013 Shelby GT500 the other day & the exhaust note it made was awesome. I think I jizzed in my pants listening to it.
You can always roll your window up!
Yes, particularly when your entire vehicle is vibrating due to the bass output from another car somewhere nearby. You can always roll your window up!
That does not help as much as you would think.
