it's always the KOOKs on the motorcycles. Noise abatement reg's on the horizon. Cops will have a field day writing expensive tickets and cycleboy will have to comply / repair / restore to register and insure. Noise abatement reg's will require quieter motorcycles each year and tighter compliance enforcement.
I'm sure you meant to say this.

My car is loud, but not overly so. Unless I really get on it. It's classic American muscle, and sounds phenomenal.

Just like people put tattoos on their bodies, or wear religious themed jewelry. etc. Want attention.

Ignorance alert.

Here in CA it's illegal to modify any vehicle to make it louder than stock. I believe this is not enforced because plenty of police officers own these vehicles too. I've also seen retired police officer associations that have their own bike club.
I think in CA it's enforced but often only enforced for import-branded vehicles because the police are biased against imports.

Similar reason why Harleys get away with being louder than a dump truck.
Wow, people really don't know why motorcycles are loud? The first response to the OP is a clue.
Harleys are loud because they're not fast.

Neighbor has a Mustang Saleen that my Roommate complains about how loud it is all the time. It sounds beautiful to me. If it was humanly possibly to upgrade my Sky Redline to be loud and growl like that I'd do whatever it took.

I did something like that with my old Sears lawnmower.

The muffler was completely rotted out and rusted so bad into the engine there was no way to remove it for replacement.

I used it to cut the lawn even though it was extremely loud, especially when it hit heavy grass. It was louder than most Harleys. lol

My neighbour used to annoy me by putting her yappy dog outside at 6 AM and it would bark nonstop until 8 AM. I couldn't sleep. I told her to knock it off. She didn't care. She said if the dog was inside it would bark and wake her son up.

This gave me an idea. I decided to start cutting my lawn at 8 AM and make sure that it made lots of noise between the 2 houses. She came out and started bitching at me about the noise waking her son. I told her the lawn needs to be cut and I will continue doing so everyday until her dog was no longer being let out to bark all morning. She relented after 4 days.

:awe:
Sounds like a win-win. Actually running any engine with no exhaust restriction at all usually results in burnt exhaust valves as the hot gases scream past the open valve very fast..

I was behind a 2013 Shelby GT500 the other day & the exhaust note it made was awesome. I think I jizzed in my pants listening to it.

here they're strict enough so it's not much of a problem, but there is the occasional bike that does too much noise. I guess they like getting noticed.
I can understand the attraction to a sweet exhaust sound though, that's why the law has to come in to protect anyone who is not the owner, the owner likes the sound and doesn't get the negative externalities since he's riding it.

It's so uncommon, I don't give a crap. In fact I appreciate it. And I have no preference. If it's audible, I like it.

Don't get me started on dogs. Our building used to be pet-free. Now it's dog-encouraged or something. It seems like there are way more dogs than people around here.

The old, new upstairs neighbor's dog cried whenever they weren't home, even late into the night or early morning. It helps that the manager lives right next to that apartment. They got kicked out pretty quick. The new, new neighbor's dog is loud but doesn't drive me nuts (yet).

Dogs deficate everywhere and NO ONE really cleans it up. There's solid residue in the grass after it's picked up that never gets fully cleaned (unless maybe during our infrequent rain), and dogs' urine is never cleaned up. I would never do pushups in the park or have a picnic because I'd have to take the blanket to the cleaners every time.

Dogs aren't even a natural part of our world. They are wolves bred down to fit our fancies.

I suppose California isn't all that bad then.

What if a neighbor decided his lawn tractor sounded "cool" with the muffler removed and when he ran it you couldn't hear a TV or talk to anyone in your house the whole time he used it, would you just say, "oh well, I guess loud lawn tractors turn him on, I'll just have to live with it" or would you suggest to him to put the muffler back on to preserve your sanity??..

I'd ask him if he was gonna put a turbo kit on it or not.

Don't mind the noisy cars as long as they keep it to the daytime. There's one asshat here who insists on peeling out his Mustang Shelby every night. I've seen him pulled over once for it but he never seems to learn. Dunno where he lives. Probably some outlander just moved to town.

What's really starting to piss me off are the loud subs the kids are putting in their cars. Nothing screams "I have a small dick" like blasting club beats out the back of your Honda Shitbox. Some kid has been sitting in the parking lot out back and playing, I swear, the same goddamn song for 2hrs now. Surprised mall security hasn't given him the boot. Must be nice to have mommy and daddy pay for all your toys. Some of us have to work.

The people who live behind us blast music from 8am until midnight everyday.... They even park their car in the backyard and blast it like they are cool. I can't wait to sell the house and move.

Those do sound sweet, it's the neighbor with a 1993 GMC V6 truck with Ebay exhaust kit that drive people nuts, or the "fart-can" Honda's..
