I have the same belief as well.My first memory of a cop was in San Diego looking our of my parents car window and seeing one beating a Mexican up on the street. I grew up an odd person who always believed that to have respect you had to earn it. I am neither pro nor anti-cop. I decide based on a person actions and how they match or don't accord with my personal moral beliefs, the ones that remain after the death of everything I had held sacred.

They don't trust progressives/liberals......they don't feel the NOPD should have been reformed....the cops were under stress when Katrina hit....This is nothing but a grift for the police unions and parish bosses. They could offer better pay and invest in training better officers—but that might require higher taxes. So they declare a “state of emergency” instead to open up those coffers to reward the sheriffs/LSP with bonuses and overtime pay instead. Maybe some more funds for military-style toys too.
