Play Oblivion at 1600x1200 with 8xQMS, 16xAF with Qarl's Textures Pack III along with Viewable When Distant mods and you'll suddenly realize the true sense and meaning of getting ridiculous frame rates

I've been loving mine since last November. Can't believe almost 8 months later and it's still unmatchable.

My 1st card was not being very nice to me after 6 months so I got a divorce, the new card I met through a blind date (aka RMA) is much better looking with a better personality so I think we wil be together for a much longer time.

I wish i could say the same.

Don't love my 8800 GTX at all.

It's the most expensive card i've ever owned, & has the most [annoying] unfixable issues as well thus far.

'Grats on the 8800GTX, would love to get my hands on one someday... For now, I'll be updating to one of the former last-gen regicides, the X1900XT. Better late than never, eh?

What kind of problems is the Geforce 8800 GTX giving you ?

Overall, I feel that my 8800GTS is a good card, but it just disappoints me performance-wise in several games.

One of them is Call of Duty 2. Overall the game performs well, but I still can't enable 8x / 16x QAA at 1680x1050 without things getting slow. Even at 4xAA, performance can still dip down into 20-30 FPS in the more intense levels such as the first American (d-day) level and some of the Russian ones. Granted the game still does look amazing.

Otherwise I'm not happy with DX10 performance. It is not possible to play Company of Heroes with max details under DX10, at the 1680x1050 resolution. Performance is decent but it is slow at some spots which really impacts gameplay.

Lost Planet is just an unoptimized POS with no real DX10 features, and I don't expect good performance on that. However, I was expecting more from Call of Juarez and CoH, and I don't think the problems there are all the fault of the game, as some would lead you to believe.

The GeForce 8800GTS/GTX are both good cards and they seemed awesome at release... it just feels to me now that they are not enough for current games and certainly future ones. nVidia hasn't given us a real boost in graphics performance (other than some improvements from drivers) in 7 months, and I think we're overdue for a new card.

Random semi-lockups in UT2k4, & random driver has stopped errors, which happens during games.

UT2k4 issue basically freezes gameplay for about a second or two, & then will unfreeze back to normal.
When you play online as i do, sometimes in competitive matches, it's insanely frustrating to be giving away free frags to other players, since it always happens right as i'm in a firefight, meaning i am dead by the time it "unlocks" :frown:

The driver stopped issue has happened in a number of games, & again, randomly.
Essentially, screen goes black & then the driver keeps trying to restart or something...all i know is i get flashing effing disco screen that won't stop.

I have to restart via hard shutdown (power button) to resume functionality on my system, as alt tabbing, bringing up task manager, etc. doesn't work.
Incredibly frustrating.

Undoubtedly, these issues are possibly due to nV's drivers for Vista 64 being immature.

That is not a legitimate excuse though, as nV has had this damn card out for half a year now, & Vista 64 RTM was available to them right around release of this card.

It's sad to say, but my old X1900 XT was a better gameplay experience, & more reliable. No such problems in Vista 64.
I'm learning the hard way that benchmarks don't tell the whole story...drivers = huge part of the story, & nV + drivers = utter sh!t.

/angry n7 rant over...

The Geforce 8800 GTS, GTX, and Ultra at high native resolutions on a 24 " and 30" lcd with maximum details, maximum FSAA, and maximum AF really don't have playable frame rates at all inless you have a SLI setup of the GTX or Ultra. I really hate lcds for this because if I could run at a lower resolution I wouldn't have to worry about it.

I hope not :Q

Then again, pricing seems to be getting progressively worse...

Yeah paying as much for a graphics card as a lcd monitor is really insane. How much was the 8800 Ultra, GTX, and GTS at launch ?

I feel your pain brother. Same problems running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. My favorite is when the "video driver stops responding." I think Vista posts that message when it doesn't know what the problem actually is. Never had a video driver "stop responding" in XP.

I blame both MSFT and NVIDIA, but there's no denying that NVIDIA's Vista drivers have gotten progressively better with each release. Maybe one day soon, I'll even be able to play a full session of a game without a hard restart.

Nvidia has said they wanted their high end cards to cost $1000 so its possible the next generation ones will.

I just can't wait for the 9800. Supposedly three times faster? That is insanity and definitely worth the wait.
