Creative likes loosing customers

http://forums.creative.com/cre..._date_ascending&page=1

For those of you that don't know, Daniel_K is a genius that made it possible for those that had old creative sound cards to be used again on Windows Vista. He also made great drivers for X-fi cards and added some great enhancements into the cards software.

Just saw that link ... Very long thread (over 60 pages)
And I think, in this case, Creative is being very idiotic
about the whole affair.

Creative underestimated the power of the internet.

If you need proof of it I bet if you look at Bose's sales you would see a interesting trend since the debut of the internet forum.

Yes Creative had done some underhanded things, like Nvidia did and many other companies, but this time they've stretched the things to much. They've stopped the only man that offered REAL support for their old and new products in Vista. They didn't like that he opened some "hidden" features in the drivers and thought that he could be shut down so easily. I guess that the creative employee that wrote the message for Daniel_K didn't expected that feedback from customers , not even in its darkest nightmares. Creative probably will go trough some "stormy" times from now on.

Never have been a Creative fan except for their Audigy 2NX external. That still works great - even in Vista.

This topic is being discussed in General Hardware as well - technically that is where it probably belongs in that sound cards are not really "peripherals" unless they are external.

Maybe, but you gotta read this from the Creative Labs message board.

To Whom it May Concern:
While it is not our place to condemn the decisions of Creative regarding this issue, our customers come first. That being said, it has come to our attention that many of our customers are not happy with the products Creative has released nor the support for those products. To wit, we have processed nearly 5,000 return orders within the past 48 hours. While it is not normally in our best interest to publically comment in a manufacturer's forum, the overwhelming concensus has left us little choice. As such, effective tommorow morning newegg.com will suspend sales of the sound cards in question, particularly those indicated as "Vista compatible", pending an investigation into the matter. Those of you whom recently ordered such a card will still recieve your product as indicated in any relevant conversations. While we regret this abrupt decision, it has been deemed neccessary to protect the interest of our consumers. We welcome contact from Creative as soon as is possible so that we may resolve this issue.

^^ Wow thats awesome lol. I want to get rid of this x-fi I have. Too many issues and loss of features in vista. I would go onboard if I could get surround sound in valve games with vista,

Go Newegg! I'm not one to jump on these "I hate (insert a company name)" here bandwagons, but the situation with Creative is absolutely ridiculous. I've used their products since the original 8-bit Sound Blaster, and all I can do is look back and say, WTF? Monopolistic practices that pretty much squashed any hope of real innovation in the sound industry aside, their complete refusal to address major product issues, especially in the add-on soundcard biz, just floors me. They've basically given a "Not our problem" response to every major issue that's arisen in the past 6-7 years... the Audigy1's "Squeal of Death/BSOD" issues, the Audigy2 & X-Fi's "Snap, Crackle, Pop" issues, the complete lack of proper driver support for Win2k, XP, and Vista at launch, and the list keeps growing... I purposely didn't upgrade to the X-Fi from the Audigy 2 ZS & 4 running in my main boxes due to the fact that the X-Fi suffers from the same crackling issues that plague the Audigys. The worst of it is that Creative has had the industry by the balls. Who else have we been able to go to for hardware-accelerated sound and the associated enhanced performance in games? It seems to me that due to their relative monopoly on the soundcard interest, they've chosen to put their efforts toward the development of mediocre DAPs and webcams, leaving soundcard customers to fend for themselves. If nothing else, I hope the PR backlash from this forces them to refocus on this neglected part of their product line, if only to stave off the competition.

About the Daniel_K thing... It wasn't hard to see this one coming, but as the current owner of an Audigy4 & Vista x64 Ultimate, I owe the happiness of my ears to Daniel's drivers. Nothing Creative provided could even come close to the features available in XP. I don't and never have expected flawless drivers for a new OS at launch, but come on! We have an OS that's already at SP1 stage, and still we gimp along with half-baked attempts at basic drivers. The numbers of people who've tossed their cards out the window in frustration or who are barely limping along with glorified, 2-channel, non-accelerated sound are growing daily. There's absolutely no excuse, and you can't blame MS for this one, Creative...

WOW... I just read through much of that thread and Creative is really being taken out behind the woodshed. They've had this coming for a long time though.

holy smokes, if one of the most popular online retailers is gonna complain in a public forum, creative should start asking questions about themselves..

i hope they go down

It wasn't really newegg. I can't believe so many people are falling for that. A generic newegg identity posting on a Creative message board on a Sunday night after processing 5000 returns over the weekend -- when newegg is closed. Use some common sense, people.

what Daniel_K did was technically illegal and wrong, no matter how great it was. But at the same time Creative crippling features so people will buy new cards in the future is shitty. I side with Daniel_K all the way here, but I don't see Creative budging on this, they are STUPID! They obviously don't want proper Vista X-Fi drivers or they would have either wrote them themselves or asked Dan if they could release his as offical. It's sad, I bought my GF an X-Fi last September, I've always known they've had shat for drivers but this latest move is total asshat on their part.

Yeah Creative have rights to their product, their software. But it doesn't give them right to treat their customer like $hit. If someone on the internet who don't have all the document, all the support from the hardware group, can write a better driver then Creative and provide users with better experience, Creative is either extremely incompetent or did it on purpose so their customers will buy their newer product. Either case, they don't deserve any support from us.

Companies have the right to their stuff, but we the customer has the right to buy from whoever that treats us right.

What I found most interesting was this mod -> P17 to Xtreme Audio .... How is that done ??? Isn't the P17 the Audigy LS/SE card ?? I thought it used a different chip than the Xtreme ?? I have both, so I'm now verrry curious about this one.

I agree and I will never buy another Creative product again, I do have an Audigy 2 in my box right now, but got it for cheap with a nice game bundle. Since my Sb Live ages ago I haven't had a creative product. I will gladly use my Razer sound card with less that perfect drivers and hope Razer fixes them. I won't even buy a Zen or anything from them. I'm glad everything Creative makes, somebody else makes a better product so it's not like I'll be loosing out on anything.
