Adopt a corgi in the link in my sig.
Anything I should know about the adoption process or behavior of shelter dogs?
If the dog has been in a Humane Society style shelter it will probably be desperate for attention. It might need some potty-training (but not nearly as much as a puppy). There's a good chance it will have Kennel Cough. My experience has been that taking a dog from a shelter and bringing into a home environment bonds the dog profoundly to the owner. They do the best they can, but shelters are not generally pleasant places to live.
There are probably Corgi specific rescues out there where the dogs have been fostered in someones home. The breed-specific rescues will probably be more expensive and have a more involved application process. You'll probably get more info about the dog though and there'll probably be less training issues.
What made you decide on a Corgi?
