how is huddle different than me texting out to a group of people?

I think that it is more about comparing group texting to BBM/iMessage/group emails. With the formers, every one you contact knows that you contacted everyone and can reply back to everyone. Group texting is like using BCC on your emails.

Huddle is actually nothing like texting people at all. It's basically a chat room.

that's what I thought, then I read somewhere that they are SMSing people.

I think this clears it up: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=1304781

For the non-plus users, you just keep getting a string of SMSes of everyone. interesting.

ok, now this makes more sense, heh. if they can cross platform this across gchat, that'd be awesome...

Huddles are a cool concept...merging group chat and sms. However, at the moment, Google+ is sorely lacking a standard messaging function...if someone hadn't sent me a Huddle, I wouldn't have even known the feature existed. It almost feels like its a completely separate service that barely even belongs associated with G+.

The app is nice though. Much like their website equivalents, it feels much faster than thw Facebook app. I wonder if they'll incorporate video chat/hangouts?

Wow, thanks for the heads up. See, this is why it's bad to have hobo friends. I actually invited my friends that don't have an android device into my existing huddle before. Not one of them mentioned that they got an sms about the huddle.

Where is it on the website? At that point, I hadn't used the app, just the site - and I got an email saying I received a Huddle. I was very confused, seeing as there is no mention of this on the site. That's my point - they're a social network that lacks basic messaging. Sure, there's Huddles....only on mobile. Or you can create a post that's only visible to one person, but that's horrifically unintuitive.

It's definitely confusing.

Huddle is mobile only, and Hangout is web-based only.

I dunno, the only thing left for google to do to push huddles is to actually integrate it into the site, although I don't think google sees that as the purpose of huddle.

On the right margin of the google+ site, there's the go mobile indicator. You click it and it takes you here http://www.google.com/mobile/+/

It tells you about Huddle right there.. if you go to the market, it also tells you about the huddle feature.

You install the app, it gives you 2 shortcuts. Google+ app shortcut and Google+ Huddle shortcut.

I agree, it's pretty dumb not to have it on the website. Google has this infuriating habit of NOT linking their products together when it would be super awesome if they did. Google + seems to have brought a few things together though (picasa etc) I hope the trend continues.

Google+ is absolutely awesome. It's like combining the best of Facebook, twitter, and Tumblr with a dash of Google services

The "nearby" thing where you can see public streams or whatever that are close to you is pretty cool. A funny stream from last friday:

Josh: so I can totally check in?

Andrew: now that we know where you are, and prepare to get raped/murdered.

Nancy: in that order

Andrew: a great start to any weekend

Josh: why do you guys want me to be raped and murdered so bad?

Andrew: because we're your friends.

Google+ is nice but I find that whenever I'm considering posting something there, I end up posting it to Facebook instead so someone might actually see it.

The flip side, though, is that on Facebook, my friends' news feeds will move so quickly they are a lot less likely to see the stuff I post.
