the 120mm panaflo doesn't move as much air as i thought. the ys tech moves air like crazy, but it's way too loud.
could there be something wrong with my panaflo? i'm not sure what to do...

That's the trade-off. People buy Panaflo's because their noise level is low. You can't expect a quiet fan to move alot of air because their rpm's are lower to reduce noise, thus lower cfm. It's all about how much noise can you tolerate. I used to use ys tech's and high ouput sunon's. The noise level of my computer started to bother me more and more. So now I use the quietest fans I can get with decent cfm.

The panaflo 120mm pushes 68CFM, what does hte Y.S. Tech push? I believe its over 110, right?

In that case, you're looking at the panaflo performing at 60% of the airflow of the Y.S. Tech. That's the tradeoff you get if you're looking for quiet fans.

Mike
EDIT, the Y.S. tech pushes 131 CFM, so the panaflo should push roughly half as much air.

the panaflo is very weak compared to the YS Tech. The YS Tech 120mm is rated at 131 CFM. It is also as noisy as an airplane. I tried the panaflo, I didnt like it. It is quiet though

I use the Panaflo's, and have no ill effects. IOW the 68CFM is plenty of airflow. Do any of you have a situation that the panaflo has failed to move enough air through your case?

Another possibility is that the 120mm fan is not getting enough "breathing room," is this mounted in a blowhole where it can get some flow going? If it's being choked by the bezel or something, see if you can cut the bottom of the bezel off so it can get some air.

I have two low-RPM 120mm Panaflos and have seen the YS Tech too. Mine are used as blowhole fans and put out plenty of air. My dual-P3 system is only 3F higher than room temperature inside, with one 120mm Panaflo, so I don't know how much more I could hope for... and that case has no other case fans at all. No complaints here.

Just keep it all in perspective, if your system is so close to the ragged edge that 1-2 degrees C. is utterly critical to it not crashing, then either back off a notch or slap that YS Tech in there and learn to like the noise!

I use a mesh filter, so it cuts down the airflow, and it is really noticeable on the panaflo. I have just learned to tune out the YS Tech, sorta like I have my ol' lady

shoot.
i have a mesh on my panaflo... maybe that's why. and also there's this big hunk of plastic called the case in the front. but there's some breathing holes, so i guess it's not so bad..

maybe if i put two panaflo's together...

The lead wires from the Panaflo should be connected to the yellow and black wires (black next to yellow) from the power supply (if you used a 4 pin connector). The red wire on a 4 pin power supply connector is 5volts. The yellow wire is 12volts. Make sure you have the red Panaflo wire attached to the yellow power supply wire. If you don't you are not running it at it's full potential.

Also, keep in mind that the idea of the Panaflo 120's is to replace smaller and louder case fans while still moving enough air to vent the case. The idea behing the YS Tech 120's is pure overkill . The average midtower case only has about 1 cubic foot of space inside without all the drives. At 69CFM the Panaflo should be enough. The YS Tech fans do move alot more air, but IMO the Panaflo's already move more than enough and they don't sound like jet taking off inside your case.

panaflow's were meant to be quiet. I know that even if i had a panaflow 120mm fan in my case i'd still run it at 7 volts.

thanks for the advice subzero.

btw, the panaflos have just a black and red cable, which i soldered to a black and red connector from a 4pin. is that alright? dangerous?

ahhaha, thats why. You are only giving it 5 volts (black and red wires), when the default is 12 volts. You were supposed to soder then onto the black and yellow wires.

Yeah, take the red wire off the Panaflo and solder it to the yellow case wire... the black wire goes to the black wire off the case.

doh!

u know what, it is actually already on yellow and black.
it's a 4pin to 4pin with two extra wires: a red a black coming out of the yellow and black...

i have it right i think.
