Low Aquamark3 score... 4x vs. 8x make that big a difference?

I have been trying to get a decent score in Aquamark to compare my system with my father in laws. I am running a P4 2.4ghz 533 fsb cpu Oc'd to 3.2, with an ATI 9800XT with 256 megs of ram. I am getting a score of 16,900 and he is getting a score of 45,000. He is running a P4 2.4 800 mhz fsb cpu oc'd to 2.6 with a 9800 Pro 128 megs of ram on it. Both of us are benchmarking in win2k, with 512 megs of DDR PC3200.

Any ideas on why my score is so much lower than his?

Edit: Just checked out my motherboard specs, and the AGP Slot is only a 4x Slot. WOuld this vs an 8x slot make that much difference?

As far as your score is concerned, I'm not sure what's going on, but normally that happens when pushing a piece of hardware too hard, or perhaps you're having voltage problems?

I got 35,700 in Aquamark3 with my Barton2500+ @3200+ with a GF FX 5700 Ultra at 500/1000. Your 9800XT ought to slaughter a 5700 Ultra I'd think.

No. 1fps or so nowadays.

You sure you don't have 6xAA enabled? I can't even imagine 6xAA dropping your performance so much, but it's possible, I guess.

The difference between 4x and 8x AGP should be minimal. Something else is causing your low score.

Yeah, that sound very low. With my P4 2.6A, everything at stock, I get Aquamark scores in the 36,000-38,000 range. What are you getting with 3DMark03? Also, make sure to disable services that you don't need (see System Tray, Task manager) before running the tests.

thats very low...your system smokes mine in every conceivable way!!!!....and i score 27,000
ish..

xp2000, 512 pc2100, 9500pro

like someone said earlier overclockin some parts of your machin is the problem....if i overclock my cpu...command and conquer actually plays worse than at stock....same goes for the graphics card after a few hours too!

but check in the control panel if you havent got 6xaa and 16xaf enabled.....thats a likely reason

4x vs 8x is worth about 4300 pts (13k on 4x, 17.4k on 8x) in 3dmark 2k1 for my 9700 Pro, so yeah, it can be a big deal.

I got 41192 on Aquamark.... Seems low but Im due a reformat and my 9800 Pro is new.... ive been to busy drooling over NFSU to actually take note of all the options available.

Do you have the AGP drivers installed for your chipset? If you didn't install them, they aren't there. You can confirm what AGP speed you are actually running in the ATI control panel. If it is doesn't say 4X, that is your problem.
