low calaorie beverages that are healthy

I love things like Orange Juice and milk. Especially as a late night snack.

The problem is that if I am thirsty, I can go through 32 ounces of either like nothing and these things are not exactly calorie light.

I'm pondering concepts like diluting orange juice with water among other things.

But what is a good healthy beverage that is low calorie. I'm talking 100 calories for 32 ounces. Something tasty but not sugar ridden.

I started looking at juicing but that seems crazy expensive. Interesting things like juicing carrots and doing 50/50 with orange juice seemed like a good compromise.

Also, I'm low on funds right now so something that costs like $2 for 32 ounces is the cap.

Water dude, just drink water. If you want a snack, start making frozen smoothies rather than juice so you get the phytonutrients . get a box of bananas (40lbs for about $30 depending) and let them ripen up. Then peal them and freeze them. Then get bulk frozen berries from costco or sams club. Throw a frozen banana and some berries in a blender with varying armounts of water and blend it up. You can go from something you can drink with a straw to something you can eat with a spoon.

Came here to say seltzer. If not seltzer, then crystal light in water. They have tons of flavors now.

Stay away from orange juice. Even the Trop 50/50 diluted stuff is super high in sugar, especially if you're having 3-4 cups of it in one sitting.

Milk you're not going to be happy with any of the substitutions probably. Skim milk is a good start but high in carbohydrates. Switching to a nut based milk might help you, but you're still talking 40-60 calories per 8oz.

You really need to fix the underlying craving. Drink water instead. High carb consumption begets more carb consumption, you're just in a continual state of your brain telling you you need it when you really don't.

I might try nut based milk to see what it's about. The smoothie idea sounds AWESOME but I'm not a member of a BJs or Cosco. Don't really have a cost/benefit to become a member now anyway.

You can get bulk fruit anywhere, and you don't have to necessarily get it in bulk anyways. Might be worth a tester to see if a cup of fruit and cup of almond milk together with some ice cubes in a blender helps satisfy you. Would be a bit better / less concentrated than OJ or milk.

I drink a store brand of Crystal Light and its tea flavored. I will also agree with staying away from orange juice, all fruit juices really sine they are all full of sugar. Eat the fruit instead.

True Lemon is pretty good. They have a bunch of other flavors now and there like 10 calories without a zillion ingredients.

I've also taken to using Vega Protein & Greens as a pretty nice way to turn water into something healthy and tasty. Almost like a shake.

Blah, who in Hell drinks water?

Who doesn't drink water? There is nothing more natural to drink on a daily basis than water. I pretty much only drink water, tea or coffee (both black and unsweetened), and soy/nut milks(also unsweetened).

People really need to get away from their sugar water obsessions.

Wait staff always give the wife and I an odd look when the kids order a glass of water and not a carbonated beverage, sort of like we are torturing them or something.

If you're hungry, do you sit down and eat a half gallon of ice cream or a pound of bacon? You shouldn't be sucking down a quart of milk to quench your thirst.

All things in moderation.

^ Hardly an applicable comparison considering that 32 oz of milk has far fewer calories and more importantly, is not empty calories, has a great ratio of protein to calories and fat, assuming it isn't whole milk. Whether a male will have hormone changes drinking that much milk is a different topic.

On the other hand if you're thirsty enough to drink 32 oz at a time, it is the water your body needs, and how little would the savor to cost ratio be if you're chugging down 32 oz - I do it myself, approximately 20 seconds to drink a quart of water if thirsty.

If it's not water then I'm spending another ten getting a glass of water to rinse my mouth out so it's not all funky. I'm more concerned about sugary and acidic beverages causing tooth decay. 100 calories is nothing, very easy to just eat 100 fewer calories at meal time.

Buy a water filter if you dislike the taste of your tap water or buy bottled water, yes you are paying for water but it is still cheaper than any other drink in a bottle.

Market Spice Orange Cinnamon tea is rather tasty. They have it in green and black teas. You could make up a bunch ahead of time and keep it in the frig.

However, I am thinking if you are really super thirsty start off with water. Maybe throw some lemon or something in it but get the bulk of your thirst covered with water. Then have a single glass of something with the flavor you are looking for.

I would say ... TEA.

Pretty cheap. But my limited experience with tea prevents me from recommending something specific.

Personally, though I just drink a lot of water.
Much of the canned / bottled drinks are designed to not quench your thirst - just keep you drinking. Because, PROFIT. (Of course they rationalize it ... "hey, you need electrolytes, right? Here's sodium." )
