If you have 85% than your GPA is 4.0/4.0.

If you got into a top 5 engineering school then I'm guessing you're a fairly intelligent person, which goes to solidify my point that you're wasting someone's money by not taking advantage of the educational opportunity you have been given.

If this program were so easy than it wouldn't be in "top" 5.

But since it is in the top 5, and you were accepted, the school thinks you are capable of excelling at your education, which you aren't. So you're either lazy or stupid. Which one is it?

Then you probably went to a useless college/major.

My major is far from useless, seeing as how I didn't have any problem getting a job afterwards. I just find it sad that people slack through college not doing well because they aren't paying for it.

I'm not in some stupid artsci school either and that scale STILL doesn't make any sense to me. So what's a 90-100% mean?

It's still 4.0.

No more than 10% of the people in the class get that kind mark.

Err.. ok, how confusing. Whatever, so what's the GPA turn out to be?

He seems to be saying that anywhere from 85% to 100% is a 4.0. Personally, I don't want to drive on any of those engineers' bridges.

Low GPA = No recruitment, not necessarily NO JOB

Low GPA=work harder at gaining experience..excelling there, and moving on up...

I know how it feels, trust me!!! : )

I'd say that if anyone's a troll, it's you.

BTW, I don't predict you snagging a great job with social skills like this.

You can too.

Oh, edited that one, huh? Well, funny thing, there's quite a few engineers here on ATOT, who could almost definitely help you out. But since you've presented yourself as such an ass, I wouldn't expect too much. Just take it as a life lesson.

Of course I can get a "job", in our program the definition of a "real job" is to have $60k starting salary.

Err.. sorry, not you, the sony guy. I'm just wondering what school has their students give their grades in terms of funky percentages. My family and friends come from 4 of the 5 top EECS school and I still never heard of such insanity.

All that money spent on an engineering degree and you have the social graces of a rock. Based strictly on what you've written here tonight, it's not your GPA that will keep you from getting a job....it'll be that you bomb the interview.

Flaming aside, if you're telling the truth that you're at a top 5 engineering school, just the name of the school will provide some respect. I doubt the recruiters who visit there will take you over all the others above you, but you may be able to wow a HR guy if you apply somewhere out of the blue.

So you're going to a 'top' engineering school but you can't do a simple conversion to tell us your gpa on a 4.0 scale?

Aside from rare circumstances (such as serious illness, etc), it's not hard to pull a 2.5 or better in college. Anyone graduating with less than a 2.5 that doesn't fall into the 'rare circumstances' area was just plain lazy. There's a reason employers screen new graduates on gpa. They want people that have proven they are capable of working hard and not slacking off all the time.

GPA only matters for first job. It is their only insight into your work ethic. After that don't even bother putting in on your resume.

there's a huge differnece between "working hard" on meaningless crap at a school and working on actual meaningful work that might be part of a product. i dunno for me that was the whole difference.

i majored in computer science. and i had a 2.6 gpa.

the job fair people were not impressed, so i worked at a data center for 6 months after the summer after school. then i got a job at a leading computer security firm.

coulda been just luck, but i believe i knew what i was talking about and i actually work hard at work. thers a lot more motivation i guess there, you know i get paid, and the work i do actually gets used by people.

so i think yeah you can get a job , even a good one. you just have to be smart , gpa doesnt mean your are dumb., after your first serious job you're gpa will mean nothing anyway.

Well put hans. Top 5 engineering school, almost sounds like RIT.

Honestly, I like the statement that no more than 10% of the students can score 85%-100%... that leaves 5% unaccounted for. Personally I hate instructors, let alone schools that grade on a curve. Most people hated me because I broke the curve often.

lol this guy is a trip. i find it funny that he keeps ignoring all the people asking him what college he went to (the NAME, not the number it ranks as top schools in the country) and he ones who keep asking for his GPA on a normal level, not this % level.

on a side note, i got a 'real' job about 4 months out of college, after 2 months of looking. my gpa was about a 2.85 w/a major of computers science. not once did i put my gpa on my resume, and not once was i asked it in an interview. so i guess it is just the area you are deciding to work in that matters.

and if you think you will get a 'real job' paying $60K out of college, with a D average, when most "good schools" (those being the big universities in the country) don't even let you pass your major classes with anything worse than a C, i dont think you will EVER find a real job.

i highly doubt this guy went to a top 5 EE school in the country. Heck when I enlisted at UMD, it was ranked #9 or so in the country for computer science. even that place wont let you pass your major classes with anything less than a C. and i graduated in may 2004.
