Do single issue voters fall into the low information voter hate fest?
Greenman knows that I’m pretty much a single issue voter. I became a Democrat all those years go because of their support for America’s union workers. I’m also supporter of the Dem’s stance that women (and only women) should have the right to decide if they want an abortion…and I support the idea of single payer healthcare…maybe Medicare for All…
BUT, I’m also conservative on a lot of issues…maybe more-so than many actual Republicans. In spite of my many felony convictions as a yout, I’m VERY much a law and order guy, and a staunch supporter of the idea that we lock down our borders…and round up all the illegal immigrants in the country and send them home. (establishing a well run guest worker program for ag workers is a necessity)

Still, since I first became eligible to vote in 1972, (had to vote by absentee ballot because I was out of the country) I have only voted for the Democratic candidate for all offices…except for Obama’s 2008 election…I voted 3rd party that year because Chicago politicians are notoriously corrupt…he proved me wrong nd I voted for him in 2012.
I firmly believe that the Democratic party represents (or wants to represent) ALL Americans…unlike the Republican party just wants to represent rich Americans.

Other than abortion most "single issues" I can think of are bunk.

There isn't a hell of a lot of difference in immigration policy between the parties and hasn't been for decades at least. Just a lot of fear-mongering by one of them.

Guns--wasn't Obama supposed to round up all the weapons? I guess eight years wasn't long enough to do it.

I'm far from a single-user voter but the environment/climate change is high on my list. The two parties are quite different on that one.

"Defund the police"--yeah, don't think most reasonable people want to have no police. Some whackos do. What most people want is for them to be fucking accountable, do their job, and stop lying when they do something wrong. Doesn't seem like too much to ask.

"low information" and "conspiracy thinking" go hand in hand to me. I had idiots telling me they "knew" hospitals were empty during covid, and that nobody was dying--it was all a scam. Meanwhile my brother works in an ICU and I knew several others working in hospitals, so I "knew" they were completely and totally full of shit. Where they got that garbage I don't know, but welcome to seemingly most of the American public. I don't even want to think of how many people believe total nonsense and vote accordingly--probably best to hope they don't vote at all.

Are low information voters only voting on things directly effective them? I want women to have autonomy over their own bodies despite not being one.

I also care about voting rights, police reform, the economy.

Voting rights are not in the radar of white people since white people are not being disenfranchised.

Correction, on the radar of White Republicans

I prefer to call them "wrong" or "bad" information voters. Many (not all) are not stupid. They may have had an occurrence or just got sucked into this cult and don't know how to get out. Some don't want to. My Mother and my stepfather are good examples. Both smart people. She retired with 35 year pension as a nurse. He retired as a master Volvo mechanic with many good stock investments over the years. They were both in a fairly serious car accident in 2012 and saw their lives flash before their eyes. Both recovered fully. It changed both of their lives profoundly. They both joined a Baptist church and found religion. They slowly were indoctrinated. Then the Trump movement came along. They were both hooked and are still in the cult today. Before the accident, my mother was a caring, loving, live and let live type of person. Not a racist bone in her body. Now she has fallen down the rabbit hole of bigotry, fear and conspiracy. My oldest daughter came out as bisexual a few years ago and my mother blamed US as parents for her "sinful" and "unsupervised" upbringing. My daughter is a wonderful young woman who just graduated from Florida Atlantic, and just started her first job in pharmaceutical sales. I still have a relationship with my mother, love her very much, but our relationship is dysfunctional but cordial. She is completely dead to my wife and children.

They are both approaching 80. They are retired and not working. They still go "cruising" and to hotrod shows in my stepfathers 57 Chevy in and around Rehoboth Beach DEL. Other than that, they got to church, do the landscaping and lawncare around their house. But, in most of their free time ... they sit around and poison their minds all day and night watching that Fox news and Newsmax, and religious tv and it has turned their brains into mush. The only friends they have or from the church and most of them are far down that rabbit hole of religious nuttery and Trump worship. It's a sad commentary, but they have chosen this path, and I have come to accept it.

This is the kind of shit that they fill their heads up with:

Low IQ voters will never be capable of understanding ranked choice.

To be honest I'm not a fan of ranked choice since it allowed a STUPID and CORRUPT candidate to win the NYC Mayoral Election.

We coulda had the garbage lady. I think she was really good at taking out the garbage.

I mean, even the abortion issue is junk. No one is forced to have one. And the overall net positive effect of roe v wade legalizing abortion was a strong push towards preventing unwanted pregnancies.

End Electoral College and bring proportional representation into government.
Ending gerrymandering has the benefit of not requiring a Constitutional amendment or a convention.

Problem with ending gerrymandering I'm sure this SCOTUS would be amenable to overturning that law and would Calvinball a decision despite gerrymandering not being in the Constitution.

Since SCOTUS has already ruled that partisan gerrymandering is not a Constitutional issue fixing that problem is something that has to be done at the state level. Also it sounds like they are going to make it much harder to argue that a given gerrymander is racial in nature and begin to accept that absent someone putting in writing they don't want the blacks to have power accepting at face value any other "legitimate" argument made that it is a partisan and not a race based gerrymander.

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more type shit.

I don't like whatever it's called in primaries where you end up NOT having your party represented. We have an issue in WA now with this situation. The Land's Commissioner position has one Dem hanging on with a 51 vote lead in a 3 way with 2 other Pubs.

You tell me to become at peace and I said stop thinking. My point is that what is the point of telling people to do what they have no idea how to do it. You failed to provide a recipe so I gave you one i am betting you have no either how to do. If you ask me what is there to do but wait for your death I would say that's crazy. I don't want to sit around waiting. I think it would make more sense to be alive now.
You just answered my response. Bold is IDK if typo.
The past week I have not worried about work, or any of it's dangers, and have been focused on getting my HVAC working correctly again because it is hot here. I work outdoors, in the sun, rain, wind and snow. I sure don't want to sleep in the humid heat.

It's been a week. I have done what "I" need to do, I am not afraid to leave the house. I accept my mortality. That is all I was saying. If you can't do that, then I am sorry.

Probably not worded properly. I was trying to say something similar to this: what is the truth master Yoda. Master Yoda, “Stop having questions to ask.”

Why is that a truthful useless answer, when given to most people? It is truthful because truth isn’t something but a psychological state of awareness, one that is not if thinking is taking place. So stop thinking and you will awaken, but who knows how to stop thinking. That is not something a thinker can do because the thinker will try to do it by thinking. But a thinker might awaken if some external shock occurs while the thinker is thinking about how there is no way truth can be reached by thought

I have no problem with this. But what you needed might be worthy of questioning, seems to me. The need to have a working HVAC system exist because of that system. No such system is available for billions of people. They just endure the heat absent any imperative to change it.

For most of my life I never had air conditioning. For most of my life I never even thought about it. But visiting my mother whose house was 95 at night, when she began to need my care, I told her I needed her to save us both from that misery. And now with global warming I got it myself. If it goes down I will call the HVAV man.

My father had the good sense to retire at a young age and take a second career in the SF Bay Area. The climate here used to be uncomfortably hot just a few weeks a year and rarely heat up a house with insulation. These days everybody seems to have the same dream.

Because I am aware of the convenience of having electricity, I think to myself how miserable I would be without it. Also, I can’t fix a power station. Now I dream of composting toilets, solar cells and DC batteries and appliances, and air to water machines. I need them for security. But I have these wonderful self torturing bouts only if I think. The beauty of the world produces a sense of gratitude. If I could, I would hold your ladder. .

Like I said I work out in the open weather, not in shade, 30 feet up. I am suntanned by march usually. I don't get sunburned anymore.

What I realized over the past 2 weeks, because everyone says IDK how you can work in this heat. It is because I can come home and recharge in a relatively cool home and sleep to recover. I have 2 known instances where I knew I was on the verge of heatstroke out in the field.
The bolded, is because where I live, (smaller community) IF they didn't install it, they usually won't come to fix it.
I did learn alot these past 2 weeks, replaced all the damaged parts. I just had 2 wires in wrong spot. Sitting in cooling down house now. Time to recharge because like I said, I can't excerpt the energy I do to keep the town with Highspeed internet service, and go home to a place that is hotter than outside. Not at 51 yr old I can't.

Good talking Moonie, hopefully the forums will stay up for some time. otherwise, same handle on different sites. Peace to you.

Nice talking to you too. I worked usually 6 days a week for 35 years outside no matter what the weather. I got the cancer surgeries and scars to prove it. Lucky for me it was SF Bay Area. One thing I noticed was that when others would be freezing to death, not literally, I would be just fine.
