Im going to say lower resolution with higher settings but I was just wondering what everyone else thinks. I just built a new machine and although these 7800GT's are some pretty decent cards, when trying to run at a 1920x1200 native resolution you sometimes have to sacrifice some performance settings if you want those higher resolutions. Usually though I just crank the resolution down to about 1280x1024 so I can still keep most, if not all settings at max. Some people can play with a low framerate but I gotta have AT LEAST 40FPS or I get really annoyed.

I typically play FPS games and notice that the framerate in most games becomes choppy when you "circle strafe" more than any other time (aside of course from intense battle scenes).

So what do you prefer? Lower resolution and higher settings or higher settings and lower resolutions?

Just curious.

Think you meant lower res or higher res.

I prefer higher resolution and lower settings if that is the only option to play above 40 FPS. Higher res means more game area to play in and higher res also compensates somewhat for lack of AA and AF, especially when your talking about 1600X1200 and up.

There are also many settings in games that dramtically effect performance, but make little difference in looks. Shadowing, dynamic lighting, viewable distances, it's always good to play with these settings.

As a general rule, I prefer lower settings in order to run at native resolution on LCD. I find non-native just too fuzzy looking - and not in a good AA sort of way

I'm a recent convert to the higher res possee. Higher res looks so sharp compared with lower res and higher settings. That's about the best I can do to describe it.

I can deal with 1024 though, as that's what i've been gaming at 95% of the time
