I was going to mention something about the shop pulling a switcharoo with the transmission, too.

Probably not anytime soon. Next up is exhaust and spoiler, followed by 19" rims.

*maybe* a Stage 1 Dinan ECU flash, maybe not.

I have it but hardly use it. DS mode with the manual shift makes it a completely different car. It's great for when you need just the right amount of acceleration, which is pretty much never for me on these roads. Too bad.

It looks nice, but I would never let some guy in Milpitas mess with the suspension that some very smart engineers in Bavaria fine tuned to perfection.

The point behind doing this was to improve the way the car looks by removing most of the gap between the top of the tires and the bottom of the fender lip, without making the car look too low. The H&R Sport springs were installed by Auto Innovations in Milpitas, CA.

Next up, exhaust kit (Corsa?) and some kind of spoiler lip for the trunk.

For what it's worth, the Corsa lost HP on the current gen M5.

Interesting... I'm not specifically set on the Corsa, other than the fact that I liked how the Corsa Sport system sounded on my GTO. I'd rather not go with a kit that will have quad pipes (two per side), because that would require cutting the bumper and installing a (diffuser?) plate.

I love the sound of the Corsa on my wife's Trailblazer SS too (LS2). That being said, I would hesitate to install it on the 335i. Exhaust gas flow speed/volume is very important on a turbocharged vehicle like that. Try to see if anyone's done an independant before/after dyno on the 335i with Corsa before picking one up. Corsa's manufacturer's dynos showed a gain on the M5, but when we tried it ourselves, we saw a definite loss. We even did multiple pulls and also multi-day pulls (to allow for ECU adjustment, etc), of course accounting for ambient conditions. Great sound, but definite power loss. Anyhow, definitely worth looking around.

If you decide to get an intercooler, look me up, I can get you a deal on one. There's more than a 25hp gain at the wheels, while making things easier on the engine and turbos.

If you get a tuner, get one that is an easy plug and play, or the Dinan one, IMHO.

how does teh bmw dealer feel about all these mods?

I personally wouldn't fvck with the warranty....

I own a certified 04 Z4, and I had to get a certified letter from my dealer to approve modding the stereo. They were very clear, that once I touched the stereo, anything regarding the stereo would be void in regards to warranty, and I wasn't allowed to do it myself. They had to clarify that if I had it done by a reputable installer (one who's reputation of doing quality work would hold up in court), then and only then would they let me mod the stereo..

You're doing suspension mods, exhaust mods, etc.. I can bet that if your car has issues, they will pin much to these mods as they have altered the fine tuning of the car....

edit: I dont think they care about anything cosmetic.. rims, spoilers, etc.. but anything has to do with major warrantable components (drivetrain, suspension), etc. they might flip a lid about it. Mess with the exhaust? I'd say no. I've read about alot of bmw owners having nightmares with bmw service because they did mods like that. I know that with Mini's (bmw owned), people were getting denied warranty service on their entire car because they added a CAI (cold air intake).

There's no such thing as perfection, there is only varying states of compromise. When you're going aftermarket, you're aiming for something that fits YOUR preferences more closely than the target mass market the OE tried to hit.

My point was warranty. I do not deny there are AM parts that supercede OEM in quality and performance return. This is the guy who's waiting for his bmw z4 to fall out of warranty before doing any mods. I just can't afford to have issues and that stuff not be covered on a $30k used car...

Oh you're definitely right there. Each person has to determine his own level of comfort for the risk from the possibility of voiding the warranty.

In theory, the Magnuson-Moss Act should protect you. In practice, many dealerships flat out ignore the law, banking on the customer's ignorance or avoidance of litigation for such a matter.

Yes, you can, but your car will not ride and handle like its designers intended.
Do you think they were not aware of H&R sport springs? There is a lot of engineering and testing work that went into choosing the springs, the ride height, and suspension components of that car, the kind of engineering work that some dude in Milpitas is not going to do before slamming this car. You paid good money for the engineering and testing expertise of BMW's specialists, only to then pay more money on top of it for some ricer in the East Bay to mess with their fine work.
