Lowest Cost Rate Limiting Switch - *sigh*

Okay, so we're on a big bandwidth management kick here at work and we need a switch that will do per-port input and output bandwidth rate limiting. My instant thought is a Cisco 2948G-L3, but that's really steep for what we're doing. We need 11 manageable ports -- I know, we should use a *nix/bsd machine to do this, yada yada, but doing it with a switch is the plan.

Do any of the 2924 series routers to traffic shaping? How about other vendors? We're looking for something < $400.

try the 2950 and 3550 line, more features. don't know specifics on rate limiting though - that is usually a router function and is easy to do on a IOS router/L3 switch.

Yea, I'd love to do it on the router, the one that's out there is an old 2500 that doesn't have a the version of IOS that has Cisco's Internet Traffic Shaping / CAR. That's where the *sigh* comes in on the Subject:

As much as I don't want to put a box on-site, I think a $50 *nix server will have to do.

Any other suggestions / ideas?

Take a look at Netscreen. I saw it at a road show, and it looked good. However, I have zero personal experience.
The two port version was $450 list, and rate limiting, firewall and 10 VPN tunnel terminations.
Sounds a bit too good to be true, but what the heck.
