Lucas reportedly confirms theatrical versions of SW films will never appear on DVD, only SEs.

Guys, the SE's are also edited for content!!!! There are a couple of scenes that are forever changed. The most obvious being Han Solo shooting second in Cantina instead of shooting Greedo (or whatever his name was) in cold blood.

There are also changes to the gun fire fights. The cuts are much shorter now. There is a video clip floating around on the web that shows you side by side the the original version and the SE's and you can see how much they edited out! I will try to find it and link to it for you to see.

Errr.... if I read your message correctly, the version on DVD will be the new version of the movies that have the added effects. Personally I think it's idiotic not to give the fans a choice between them on a single disc. THey can easily do that with branching. Lucas IS an ass!

Southpark did a good parody of this with Lucas and Spielbergy and ET and Indiana Jones stuff.

Before I saw that I didn't even know about the E.T. thing where he/they change all the guns to walkie talkies in the SE DVD.

Laserdisc is ANALOG video guys, no pulling anything off anything. The only way to do it is to record it the old fashioned way to a DVD/VCR/Computer/Whatever format you would like that has a RCA Composite or S-video input. The audio is digital so that you could record digitaly into a PC but video is analog. Those bootlegs on DVD are just digital recordings from an Analog source.

Theoretically, someone with enough EE skills could catch the digital streams that're coming from the LD drive circuitry and re-route them to some form of digital storage (hard disk drive, if possible) for storage, analysis and decryption. Of course, that's a whole load of work and equipment but where there's a will, there's a way....

I saw that parady also. Thought it was really good. I DIDN'T know in the SE DVD of E.T. that the guns had changed to walkie talkies? I thought it was just a p1ss take. If he actually had that changed in the film it must have looked pants! Realism!

you're right, nostalgia for nostalgia's sake is pathetic. too bad this isn't an example of it. although it is entirely his right to do so, lucas did more than just update the effects and enhance the sound to the original movies. i'm sure we could live if it was just that. but he added & edited whole scenes that many people feel changed the movies for the worse. i believe all sw fans are asking for is the opportunity to watch the original movies, unedited from the first time they saw them 20+ years ago. lucas is making that very difficult for us to do, and a lot of us are upset about that. vhs tapes are an unstable and inferior quality medium, laserdiscs are rare, expensive (if all one wanted the player for was to watch star wars and a few other movies that would never make it to dvd), and still inferior, and pirated dvds support terrorism, of course. yes, the movies are probably 95% the same as they were when they first came out, but certain parts of it (greedo shooting first, that really stupid song & dance at jabba's palace), make just enough difference for me to want the originals the way i remembered them when i was growing up.
