Ludacris A64 temps

so yesterday my A64 3200+ (not overclocked for the summer) hit 58C idle according to asus probe and the BIOS while it was idle


i have a zalman CNPS 7000 on it on high and its not even warm to the touch


is anyone else getting high temps with the asus K8V?

if its not warm to the touch and ur comp isnt freaking out dont worry about it maybea new bios will fix it

Just kidding. It's ludicrous, though.

Anyway, make sure you've updated to the latest BIOS. Reseat the processor and reapply thermal paste if necessary.

My board seems to have problems reading CG-stepping A64 temps properly.

My 3200 Newcastle runs at about the same temp idle, though I have the stock cooler on it. At first I thought it was my MB misreading the temp, but after posting about it here and doing a little more research, it looks like they may just run pretty hot.

Either way, I'm thinking about forgoing getting a better HSF cooling solution and go straight to one of the Koolance watercooling cases. Assuming I can find the cash, that is.

my chip says it idles at 53c but i know thats not true bc i took the proc out and put it in my epox and than my friends msi and it says 43c.. errr chaintech bios all messed up . thats with the stock HSF also. He has a zalman, it shouldnt be near 58c. Its probably around the low 40's high 30's

I suppose his MB may also have a buggy BIOS.

But if that's the case, what I want to know is why all these MBs can't read the correct temps, considering they've been doing it for years.

i have the most up to date BIOS, i have flashed the BIOS twice to newer ones and the temps never decreased

atleast i'm not alone with this problem

my bios says my a64 runs at 13 C, and i know that cant be right so i wouldnt sweat it.

Maybe your IHS isn't properly making contact with the core? Too much T.I.M.? High ambient and/or case temp? Faulty temp reading? Once you have eliminated all that, then my advice is let stability be your guide. If you can cause the system to crash, err out during a TT, or otherwise flake out or underperform then you do indeed have a problem, failing to encounter any such problem makes it a non-issue.

On a MSI neo plat and a chaintech znf3-150 my idle temps for a 3400+ was 45 with the zalman 7000. Might want to make sure it's screwed tight enough to the processor. Also your case might not be getting it enough air. My case is a antec amg 1080 plusview LE with 5 case fans.

the HSF is on properly, i cant tighten it anymore. i was getting the same temps with the TT HSF that came with the clip so i knew that one was making contact for sure

as for airflow, the side of my case is open (its a chemning similar to the 1080)
