badluck,

I found one of RossMAN's old posts on getting Compaq Presario BTO status:

RossMAN wrote:

If you ordered a Compaq Presario BTO notebook please call 1-888-215-8889 give them your phone number and name under which you purchased your Compaq notebook. They provided me with a Compaq order number which resembles 98..... and confirmed my notebook should be shipped on 10/2 via 2nd day air to be received THIS FRIDAY 10/4 !!!

RossMan, or anybody else with the 1500t (sorry to be posting in the 900z post)
have any of you done battery tests with the 1500t celeron 66whr battery?

does it get through a 2hr dvd?
will it get through 2.5 hours of word processing?

I just ordered the 1500t sxga at staples (they looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about the waved shipping) but I did receive the 50+30 coupons and am waiting for the 1500 to ship before I return my dell 4150 (was too scared over the 400 rebate).

any second opinions about the 1500? any regrets, any glowing reviews?

oh, and how loud are the fans? are they always on - always off?

thanks,
volodar

HOT UPDATE!!!!!!

I guess I'm the only who noticed this, but now the 900z comes with the 8x DVD 8/8/24x CDRW combo drive as standard!!!. Same price: $1199.00 before all the discounts. If you choose the 8x DVD alone (no CDRW combo drive), it's $100 less!!!

Just a display bug, if you add it to your cart, the correct price shows up. Default CDRW will get you 1299 while 8x DVD gets you 1199.

I ended up ordering with the $300 BTO discount & $15 coupon....
Had to put the 1199 up $1 with some pens to get both the 300 & 15 to
apply.. (must be a 15 off 100)... Nice touch was paying tax after the 315 off...
so many times you pay tax before a coupon/instant rebate.... after the 100 back
from Compaq, that leaves me at $833 shipped to me.
Thanks all. Oh, and I took the advice from a Dell notebook thread and bought on my
Visa that has the warranty extension/manager service, so I end up wtih 2yrs warranty.
Call the phone # toward the bottom of the link to see if your Visa has the service- not all do.

Just called compaq hotline.

Got a fedex tracking and notice that my 900Z is made in Taiwan and I would most probably receive it on Monday. That is a whole 3 working day to get to me, and if I include weekend its a whooping 5 day to get it to me. I wonder what happened to my 2nd Fedex.

Hm I ordered on the 1st, schedule to deliver on the 21st. Check fedex tracking and found 4 day delay in Indianapolis. Called fedex, CSR response was Custom's delays. Somehow I don't think I will be getting my laptop by monday, anybody else having delays at Indianapolis? So my question is what should I do come Monday when my laptop hasn't arrived yet? It's getting pretty close to the edge of making the postmark rebate on time which is 30 days within purchase date.

I think compaq's rebate is from the day that they ship the laptop. But in case, I called compaq's csr and they said its fine, just mention in you rebate that the shipment was delayed by custom. Should it be rejected then call compaq and have it sort out.

Taken off the new compaq rebate

"RESTRICTIONS. This offer is limited to one rebate per qualifying purchase. Valid while supplies last for purchases made in the U.S., U.S. territories and on U.S. Military bases only. The rebate is not available for Compaq Presario Notebook PC models ending in CL purchased from Wholesale/Warehouse Clubs or on refurbished Compaq Presario Notebook PC ?s purchased through Compaq Factory Outlet or other resellers. New or refurbished PC?s purchased through online auctions or from retailer kiosks (Built For You) are also not valid for this rebate. Promotion void where prohibited or restricted by law. This offer may not be combined with the Compaq Presario Fall/Winter 2002 Notebook PC Rebate"

Notice the "New or refurbished PC?s purchased through online auctions or from retailer kiosks (Built For You) are also not valid for this rebate."

That is why I wanna make the 10/12 rebate deadline.

Nhidog you did place your order before 10/12 therefore you should be safe.

Just post mark +/- 30 days of the date you bought your laptop from staples. Use your staples invoice date and you should do fine.

I know I placed it before 10/12. The problem is I placed it on the 1st which gives me till the 31st to postmark it. At the rate my notebook is being delayed, it might not even get to me by then. Oh well I'll wait till the 22nd and then complain to Staples .

Um, you guys, you have got the wrong new rebate. The new rebate from Compaq ends on 2/23 like I said and the link is here. And it specifically says for "ALL built for you" laptops.

The rebate form is confusing. It almost sounds like it is only good on those units listed (some of which are bto). Are you saying that's not the case?

Nhidog:

You want the rebate that specifically says something about Fall/Winter 2002. The one that BFavre444 posted.....Do not bother with the rebates that talk about Summer savings at the top. I don't know why you have that old rebate form. If you go to Staples' site and look-up this computer, you will see the correct rebate form on their site.

chlobo:

It specifically states on the rebate form that "All Presario Built For You Notebook PC Systems" - so yes, it is good for the BTO computers. As long as the BTO computer is NOT used or refurbed.

I posted in the other 900z thread as well, I bought it through staples.com and configured it with 15"TFT, downgraded to 8xDVD (I have no use for a burner in my lappy as I can upload and burn through home network) XP2000+, 30gb HDD, 256mb DDR2100, modem, 10/100, XP HE, integrated FDD, kick ass JBL speakers, free 56k access (6months), and after the $300 IR, 100MIR, tax&shipping my total was $1061.94. I used my Discover platinum and the order didn't go through because Discover dosen't let you pay electronically in such large amounts evidently, so when Staples called to LMK I called Discover and they said have them call for authoriztion, so when I called Staples again I asked the CS rep if I could add the 50$ business reward code I had and he said he was fairly certain I couldn't but I pressed him and he put me on hold to ask and came back and gave me the OK -$50=$1011.94 which I'm quite satisfied with as that covers most the shipping. As to bugs in the laptop I did a search before buying and visited the AMDZone forum that is linked here now and everyone seems happy with their's and even play UT2K3 on it so I'll post back with initial satisfaction when it gets here

Shrug, those rebates I found are off of the Compaq site itself since Staples specify a manufacturer mir, I figured it be at Compaq.com

Got my laptop on monday. Meddle with the system for some time removing all the junks that Compaq has, then while playing around with my 11 button mouse/touchpad with scrolls(left and right) I accidentally configured the a button for closing app. Or so I thought, I had made a mistake with recording the close button, instead of alt+F4 I forgot to let go of the alt key. And that resulted in me not being able to double click on shortcuts to open app. Then I thougth that it must be some of the compaq files that I deleted that is causing the problem. Anyway, I reinstalled XP using the disk provided. A total of 6 disk, 4 for factory image restore, 1 XP original install disk that will allow clean install. And also an application restore disk: which by the way I find useless unless you want to install compaq crap. So I did a clean XP install, then decided that I wanted the Microsoft money software, then I restore to factory install. That took me 3 days, well it was not really fun to do but hey I am used to reinstalling software and setting up my PC to my liking.

Ok more to talk about how I like the notebook, I like it alot. The screen is nice but I did notice a cluster of 4 dead pixel and the rest are mostly dust that looks like dead pixel.
I am doing dual screen right now on my 17inch CRt monitor and absolutely loves it, I have tried watching dvd and surfing net at the same time/download stuff too. the dual display with the extended screen is just sweet. I have also used photoshop and place my toolbars and other pallets in the second monitor. What else I did, I watch TV on one screen while typing a report on the other, I also have hauppauge usb TV, did some web content creation with the source code on one screen and my materials on the other. How cool is that? Ok I knwo that other laptop can also do these function that I mentioned, but this compq900Z does it just fine.

The problem is that the thing does not come with firewire port or infrared port.

And this thing runs hot. When I run 3dmark2001 on it, I got a score of ~1500, PCmark had like 3500,3000,300-400 for harddisk. Results for harddisk is bad. I also played UT2002 and Jedi knight on it, also WC3 too.

My config is 15inchSXGA, 256rams only(hoping to upgrade if hot deal comes along, otherwise it runs just fine)

Typical cold boot start up time is about 40seconds, after I had installed office pro, antivirus and other bog ware that is neccessary. I did run page defrag and two other speedup boot programs. Didnt measure the time before I did those programs but it seems fast enough to me.

from stand by is just like 5 seconds, and have not tried hibernation.

Ah finally, battery life is good, I was able to test ammagedon DVd which is a 2hour plus dvd played completely, with the highest contrast setting and still had some time left.

Couldnt try out the multiport though as I dont have wireless device nor the multiport wireless.

The heat issue is solved with a huge ~20inch fan blowing from left to right of my laptop.

Very good deal.
