He's probably giving out his GV number and pretending his official number doesn't exist. I've just started doing this, as I didn't know how transparent "use GV for every call" really was.

Still, I don't think this is a hole in WP as much as an Android-specific feature.

Yeah, I wouldn't say the iOS implementation is really that great either. If you are that tied into Google services, Android is the only platform for you really. Google isn't going to just give away its best stuff onto other platforms, same with Apple and Microsoft.

I hope the "22s" coming to Verizon later is true. I think I'd really like having a good camera on my phone and the more 'major' WP8 phones available, the better.

Well, there still isn't an official Dropbox app. Or Pulse or Flipboard.

Funny, I've been reading all the articles on my HTC Titan off of Pulse for months . . ..

How well does the WP8 app ecosystem stack up to iOS and Android? I'm talking about core quality apps and games here, not raw numbers.

Having said that above, the only apps of any consequence are from Microsoft at this time (as much as I hate to say it) - I've had an iPod touch and helped set up my mom's android (gingerbread) phone (as well as messed with my wife's [ICS] phone) so I've had exposure to the top phone OS' around. Hell, my last phone before this was a WebOS phone!

Out of all the phone OS' that I've used, Windows 7.5 is by far the most user friendly/intuitive phone OS that I've used. The only - and I'd agree it is the biggest - drawback is the lack of any apps for the system, and hopefully win8 will change that.

Regardless, I'm really excited for the 920 to come out. I'm pretty sure that's going to be my next phone.

Eh, it's a short term problem. TMo should finish refarming 1900mhz spectrum to HSPA by the end of next year.

I'm sorry shorty, I'm a big fan of WP, but there are some significant apps missing from WP. Instagram is popular on both of the platforms, as well as a competent sports app (I want notifications, which NONE of them provided) like Sportacular - a lot of the cross-platform games like WWF are missing as well. Dropbox is a huge one as well - I really hated using the web interface.

OK, so, by your own admission there ARE apps for WP7, yes?

Latest I've read on the 920 is that it's a 6 month exclusive with AT&T. That leaves hope for Verizon getting it at a later time, but I'm not sure if I'm interested in waiting that long. My iPhone4 is just feeling slower by the day and as I window browse other devices I'm getting more and more annoyed with the 3.5" screen.

Yeah, by six months we'll have the Galaxy SIV and so on. It's *forever* in the mobile space.

There are apps, but outside of Angry Birds, they are generally crap. There's not even a call-blocking app at the MS Store. I had a Lumia for about 2 months and it made the Blackberry App Store look positively plentiful.

This isn't Android. Windows Phone apps are not allowed to integrate that deeply into the system, constantly running in the background. The same applies to iOS apps.

Damn, I'm pretty sure my upgrade window expires at the end of the year and it seems highly unlikely to see the 920 on Verizon before then. Looks like I'll be trying Samsung or HTC. Hopefully :/

They wont see the 920 at all. They are getting a different model thats basically the same hardware.

If Verizon screws the deal, you'll be waiting indefinitely...

Nokia 920 is awesome but HTC 8X looks almost the same. I dont think we have seen last of the fights for patent infringement. Come on HTC! You have copied the 90% of the Lumia. It's hard to believe Nokia and HTC came out with their win 8 devices which look and feel almost the same.

Other than stuff that's probably mandated by MS (the UI, the buttons), they aren't clones.

Okay there ARE apps for the OS, but "barebones" so to speak. To be completely fair it's the newest OS out of the three by far, but the rate of adoption is really low at this time, thus the rate of new apps being released + total numbers of apps are very small compared to Android or iOS, but not empty.

I still think it's the best OS out of the three so far.

Happy?

Anyway to sideload apps on WP7/8? I assume no, but maybe that has changed. Do you think they will be able to in the future once the phones get more mod support?

I don't want to pay the $100 to be developer unlocked.

I believe they have quoted mid 2013 as the completion estimate.
