The Lumia 920 is nice, but I just had a look at the HTC and I think I may go for that instead. Any thoughts?

Lumia 920 has me sold so far, I do like the HTC 8X though as well. We'll have to see as they come out, I've been a hold out from smart phones so far(still have a samsung flip phone) and I have a feeling I'll still feel no need for one after these are released.

Yeah the 8x does look really nice too, it's so thin and the bezel is so small it looks like it would fit really nicely in your hand. The dealbreaker for me on it is the storage, 16gb is way too small for me since I like to keep music on my phone.

This is ultimately why I won't be getting any phone that doesn't have an SD card slot. I use my phone as my portable media storage, as well as record lengthy (and high bitrate) videos from biking/automotive, have around 4+GB of music stored, and swap HDBR videos often. Unfortunately I can see 32GB filling and I'll need to constantly manage space to do all these tasks.

As much as I like what's here in the 920, it's missing this one key ingredient to being my next upgrade. :/

When does this phone come out? I'd like to read a review and then maybe try and upgrade my work phone to it.

Ok, so I get that this phone has a kick ass camera. But how is it as a smartphone past that?

This thing is being hyped up as a ultra compact camera that, oh, also makes calls and stuff.

I'm still trying to get more information on Windows Phone 8 and how well it's improved since Windows 7 mobile. I'm really getting annoyed with how Nokia and MS are handling these pseudo leaked releases.

That's one thing I'll give Apple. Once *they* announce something, it's nearly immediately available in mass quantities. No vaporware for months.

It just looks like very uncomfortable phone to pocket, carry, and hold. That's a large phone with what looks like sharp four corners.

Also, I get iOS and Android. iOS for the easy of use, apps, Apple content and Android for its customization, functionality, and integration of Google services. Where does WP8 fit?

We dont know yet. They claimed WP7 was so easy you would spend less time digging in your phone and more time living your life. In reality it was so devoid of features you just got bored with the thing faster and put it away sooner.

Its been OK for me, cuz I was looking for an excuse to not play with my phone all day. I got a used HD7 and was quite happy for the last year or so. But now I need functions, so I'm going back to Android.

I think for people who don't need a premium imaging experience with their smartphone, the HTC or Samsung WP8 options will be much more pocket-friendly. But I'm sure some people will try out the Lumia 920's camera and never go back to a regular smartphone shooter.

As for where WP8 fits in, that's the billion dollar question for Microsoft and Nokia (the only two companies all-in on the platform). But Windows Phone is a really slick platform. It's extremely smooth, reliable, well integrated, and is only hampered by sub-par app selection. It's a walled garden for people who don't like the iPhone.

With this being available on AT&T, any reason why you wouldn't be able to buy it unlocked and take it over to Straight Talk?

You won't get proper 4G LTE, but you will get AT&T's '4G'. So, no there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to.

Last I heard MMS doesn't work on Straight Talk (or is that just an iPhone limitation?). I intend to jump ship to them in about a month when my contract with AT&T is up.

ATT phones do not need to be unlocked for ST. As far as mms, for iphone you had to be jailborke but I dont think that is the case anymore and on Android you can mms

MMS works on Straight Talk on Android phones. It might be iPhone thing of it not working unless you do some sort of hack.

I haven't confirmed yet but I think FaceTime over cellular works on Straight Talk AT&T. I had my wife test it this morning on her 4S and the signal was sent. The other party didn't answer so I couldn't get complete confirmation but it looks like it will work.

Did you think it was going to be something different? The Galaxy S III is the only high-end flagship phone that isn't exclusively tied to a carrier. If a phone isn't an exclusive, it isn't going to be pushed by carrier reps, simple as that.

iPhone 4-5 are not carrier exclusive either. How does MS and Nokia expect to get market share if they don't offer products on all carriers. Really stupid when you are fighting for table scraps.

Is it a coincidence that Samsung and Apple also rake in the most money? Maybe, just maybe, you make more money when your product is available to more people.

Well MS is also betting on HTC. In fact, this exclusivity may be why it's the HTC models that have WP in the name.

Didn't VZW talk shit about Windows Phone when it first came out? And not having the 920 doesn't mean VZW won't have a W8P device, just not this specific one. The only benefit the 920 has over anything else is the camera and apps. Oh wait, those are actually pretty significant!

I'm still debating whether I want to pick this up, the iphone 5 is nice but I'm already pretty bored with it so I might return it and get this. What I really need to see is details about WP8, I'm sold on the 920's hardware but there are some things about WP that I want to see fixed from the last version.
