Something about the styling makes it look cheap. Also, the gas tank design won't accommodate American guts.

It's a terrible street bike. That Ducatti is more a track only bike, or something the guy in loafers rides up to the bar and talks smack.

I haven't ridden either one but I doubt that either of them really excels at anything other than track days.

Have you ever even ridden a bike?

That's the thing with the S RR, they are street bikes.

and yeah I have even ridden one without having to don full leathers and body armor *GASP!*

Honestly, I wouldn't even notice that bike more than I'd notice any other "rice rocket" (for lack of a better term for non-Harley/cruiser bikes).

I'm in the same boat, they all look the same to me. The same holds true for people that aren't into Harlys or cruisers, they all look the same to them.
My wife doesn't see any difference between any bikes. They have two wheels, which is two too few, and nothing to stop the wind from messing up her hair.

It also doesn't allow you to listen to music!

LOL yes the I4 is so much more street friendly!!!

neither of the bikes is going to be super street friendly, but its something you put up with if you want the bike.

1: market and 2: having to cover the same basic structure.

Many will re-paint the body work if they don't like the colors/finish.

BMW built that bike to compete in the World Superbike series and to break into the supersport market the Japanese big 4 have been dominating for decades. They copied the Japanese bikes because they are very very good. Zee Germans just made their copy a little bit better. Of course, it is also more expensive.

Other than custom builders who make show bikes, I don't know anyone who would take a brand new bike and re-paint it. That is left to shade tree mechanics who pick up wrecked bikes at a fraction of the cost of new ones and fix them up.

That's the thing with the S RR, they are street bikes.

So is the Panigale. I know plenty of people who ride 1098/1198's on the street.

I've ridden sportbikes and I don't find them to be particularly comfortable. Can't imagine the BMW is much different. They are great fun to ride though.

Ever owned a bike of your own? How many years/thousands of miles of experience do you have?

And, I've never understood why you always try to harp on me for wearing gear when I ride. It's as though being squidly is a badge of honor with you and you're proud of it.

Why does a BMW sportbike have the same Gundam styling as Japanese ones?

That's a good question, and I think they really dropped the ball with this one. BMW's niche has always been with interesting engineering and quirky looks. The R1100 series were great street bikes in their own right, and a lot more interesting than a carbon (fiber) copy of a Japanese supersport. would much rather have one of those.

I've ridden that bike (well, the later R1150R anyway) and while it is a very comfortable, capable, and refined bike it isn't even close to a sportbike.

By the way, BMW still makes and sells the R1200 and it is about 50lbs lighter than the R1150 was. Still heavier than their sexy Italian counterparts though.
