Remake of early 1980s Atart 400/800 and Commodore 64 game - a very addicting game for 4 players.

It is a a free game and hosted online at: http://www.planetmule.com/

An average game takes about an 45 minutes to an hour and usually about 5 minutes wait to get 4 players and game started. You can also start a tutorial game with 3 computer controlled players to learn it. It is a very fun and addicting land/resource management game that also is designed with an arcade like control, to moving around the screen, making it fast paced.

Here is a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1W52wQUkKc

By the way, anyone that would not mind hacking the color value of an image in that game?

There is a part where you have to catch a creature (Wampus) that briefly pops on the screen. With its color it is hard to see - in the original game there was high contrast between the creature and its background. Another player told me he hacked the hexadecimals of it and change it to a more contrasting color to its background but I do not know how to do that exactly or what editors to use to try.

Would that be easy for anyone here to hack the game's data file to do that?

Played the game (on the Atari 800) back in the 80s and loved it ... became my favorite game at the time. I joined Planetmule a while ago and tried to join a game but was (somewhat rudely) told (by the other players) to leave and run the tutorial, single player game. I know how to play the game by heart even after 30 years. I have never been back since ...

Thought this might be a new Blizzard game like SC:Ghost. Instead of playing as a ghost, you would be a MULE.

They were like that with me at first. They are not really being rude. Here is the situation: If someone drops out of a game, the AI takes over for that player and in random games, not started by user setting this feature off, it can change plots in milliseconds, so it has a huge unfair advantage during the late game, so they are concerned of unknown/first time players who have a habit of leaving games to guard against this happening.

I gave up last year, i could never open the port fir online. Did this get fixed?

I have had no problems at all but I have never tried hosting a game, other than a tutorial one with all computer players. I just play in the lobby as they come up against others.

Man, I played Mule all the time on my C128 when I was a kid. I just finished playing the trainer and got mopped up by it. Man, these years have made me rusty.

I wonder - is there an emulator [atari, c64, etc] which runs on Droid that would allow you to play M.U.L.E.? I'd much prefer the original version...

There was also a NES port which you can easily play on the many NES emulators. Then again, I simply break out my NES

Has the port forwarding deal been fixed?

Should not be an issue if you are playing some other host's game or playing one of the bot games that are always up. But if you host, you have to open the ports.

http://www.planetmule.com/faq

If hosting:

Q: Why can’t other people join the games I create?

A: Planet M.U.L.E. uses port 6260 with both UDP and TCP traffic. If your computer is connected to a NAT router you must forward port 6260 to to your local IP address. If you have a firewall enabled, for example the default Windows firewall, you may have to add an exception for port 6260.

Please refer to www.portforward.com for more intructions: Select your router from the list of routers on their first page. (Routers usually have a sticker with its name and model number printed on it.) After selecting router click the Default Guide link in the text area at the top. Follow the instructions to forward port 6260 to your computer.

Above is why I gave up, I messed around with far too much crap & I never could play with friends. I have a feeling fios blocks that ports traffic.
